The idea is that this would start as level 1 guys only for the first season -- i.e., players created only for ironman, but with caps slowly being added each season as the leagues progress until you get to uncapped. These are players that would likely take a couple of seasons to develop well for this league, so having the reset back to level 1s each season wouldn't make much sense, in my opinion.

Of course, we can leave the exact details up to Bort and his fine staff of testers to determine the right progression

I agree with this.

I see the merits of making it TRUE Iron Man and limiting the roster to 12 players only, but I think that would make for cookie cutter teams, especially a couple seasons down the road.

Raising the roster to 15 instead allows for a little bit of creativity, gives you a few backups and/or specialized players to make teams more unique. It also allows you to field a team in case you aren't able to fill out a roster spot or two, or if something happens like an agent going inactive with a couple players on your team. With just 12 players, you have no flexibility to cut a player or make offseason changes that you might not be able to fill without adding CPU players.

Raising it beyond 15, though, is just asking for trouble. For each extra spot you add, you have GMs likely to create another specialized player for that role, which slowly erodes the idea of the Iron Man.

I'm trying to think of what else needs to be said...and I can't come up with anything other than "do it, please."

Any chance you can get someone to send up the Bort signal, so we can have some kind of idea of the feasability of the idea, or find out if maybe there's a problem in there we haven't thought of. Or even if he thinks it's a great idea but unfortunately it's never going to happen -- or at least not at anytime soon.

I'm amazed that this thread is still going strong, is still picking up supporters, and still doesn't have anything anyone can point to that says: "This is why it would never work."

I thank all the people who have stumbled across this thread and offered support or criticism or additional thoughts. I think we have a really honed-down, workable idea here that compliments the existing features of the game without needing any changes other than a limited roster size and its own start-up league.

The only "issue" i can see is Reg AI or Basic. With an unusual player build there could be alot of angry owners with "new" exploit type complaints if it went regular. We should be stressing the "build" factor the upmost, as is 90% of the way a Casual team is successful. No repeat plays ever in Casual, no all 5 WR sets or slam middles all game. No going for it on every 4th down, no 3000 yard rushing QB's, etc, etc.

Please, please consider this direction of tactical gameplanning when the future of a Ironman league may be set-up!

Cheers!

I think that bort will do it for S12.

This sounds awesome to me - can't see any holes at all.

I would definitely make a player or two for it.

I think this idea is great in its original form, leaving OOP penalties and just limiting the roster size and then letting it go. Seems like all you'd really need to do is add leagues for it, assuming there's a way to limit roster size by league.

Considering there is a 55 roster limit now, it should be simply something along the lines of an old If, Then type of statement.
I agree, don't change OOP penalties or Fatigue use.
It will be more of a chess match of using High, Normal, Relaxed & different player builds and types.

I think this would be a great addition even if only for the fact that it would be adding a completely new style of player-building to the game that people haven't really begun to experience yet. Players would realistically have to be made specifically for this, but if we just start it off as like a single league and see how popular it is, I think it'd be pretty interesting..
