You know, the reasons this blew up are obvious, but I will point them out.
Timing was awful.
First you have a league that has already been rocked by not one but two cheating scandals that have resulted in massive bannings on 2 teams. So everyone here is very sensitive right now and on the lookout for suspicious behavior. In life, but especially in on-line gaming, perception very often becomes reality. It is part of howon-line communities behave.
Second, if this had happened in the off-season it would likely have gone unnoticed. But in the second half of the season during a close playoff race where everyone is scouting out each other anythiung that looks fishy is going to be noticed and brought to the rest of the leagues attention, because quite frankly peer pressure is the only effective way to regulate behavior in an on-line enviroment.
Third, as exemplified in the 65 page thread I posted, gutting/collusion is in itself a hot button issue. It is on everyone's mind. Once again, the reaction is should not be a surprise.
Looking at the actions of AlCapown from the outside, how is any conclusion other gutting/collusion to be garnered. 10 players are cut from thier team by the owner, who sells the team after cutting all the best players, these players then sign on the very same day with a new tream in a league 3 levels below their current competition. Given the current enviroment even if it was innocent the people involved should have known that it would be questioned and would look suspicious.
At best the people involved were niave to think that this would fly by and not raise hell.
