I had to leave a well paying job and move 1000 miles when my dad got sick with cancer this past March (RIP Dad) and of course the team I was involved as DC with suffered some. Granted, I was not facing the WL at the time, but would certainly have declined an invitation had I been team owner at that point in time.

Unless you know the situation behind why a team declined, perhaps it is you who should drop it instead of rambling on and on and on and on and on, et cetera, ad nauseum.

if you dropped your team or disbanded to real life....you should not be offended per Bort's comments. Real life is real life. If you dropped your team because they were season 1 and 2 players and you just couldnt handle another season, but are still actively playing this game...you wussed out.

don't know why you need to take it to a personal level...because its really not.

But seriously, people let's remember that Bort is a computer programmer first, and whatever else before diplomat. Could he have posted a more respectful subject line? Yeah. But this is all being blown way out of proportion. Personally I don't know how he deals with all the crap without expressing his annoyance at more people. I can't imagine the volume of nonsensical complaints and requests. This thread has run its course. A lof of people are acting like he slapped all of Africa region across the face, and that is simply ridiculous. He made an announcement and expressed some disappointment, and really it had to do with only a small number of declining teams. He had good reason to be disappointed IMHO as World League is the top and should be strived for rather than ducked away from. Move on.

Wow, seriously guys just let it go. APL's top teams did "wuss out". Who cares if Bort should or should not of said it, you would not have this reputation if you didn't put it on yourselves..and honestly, if you guys stopped resisting and fighting back so much people wouldn't of even cared anymore by now. Just laugh it off.

As I went at some length to detail before - 'pretty much' doesn't modify 'APL', it modifies 'wussed out.' This didn't come from the top dog among peers, but from the owner. Bort effectively put an asterisk next to APL - the whole thing. I thought my team had a damn good season and went about things the right way in how to close things out. I'm letting it be known that I don't accept Bort's opinion.

Not that simple. When you laugh off small problems they become medium problems. Then when you laugh off the medium problems they become large problems and so on. Regardless of how the majority feel does not excuse the behavior. I personally feel Bort needs to start a new thread apologizing for the comment or at least lock this thread himself and post an apology or explanation. He needs to be accountable imho but whether or not that will or should happen is another debate. I will agree to let it go as it is obvious I am in the minority on seeing how dissapointing it is to have this entire subject brought up by Bort himself.

For the same reason you feel the need to insist to everyone that "it really isn't that big of a deal". It is a term called prerogative.

I am not even in the APL (although I retired a player from SISW after season 11 for financial reasons) but that is beside the point.
Hell, if a team truly "wussed out" rather than declined for RL reasons then I have no problem with them being called out per se, just not by the game creator himself. I think we can both agree that there are plenty of people who would have done the job for him just by posting something as simple as "teams a, b, and c declined promotion".
If names had been named (without saying wussed out or anything else considered unprofessional), then ONLY those teams called out would have reason to respond or get their feathers wrinkled over the matter.

However, the fact tha this was handled unprofessionally from the start means that we can expect further un-professionalism in the future.
With this (and other past examples of un-professionalism, whether directly or via proxy through those he entrusts to police his forums) having happened, would it really surprise anyone if Bort just took all monies that have been paid him via PayPal or otherwise, and simply closed shop without refunding anyone?
Sure many people would be surprised by it, and rightfully outraged.... but those that are arguing his un-professionalism on principle, whether in the APL or not, would likely be less surprised.

It just seems that today's younger generation (in general, not everyone obviously) has little or no principle and absolutely nothing "is a big deal". They see it as their right to completely shit on anyone at any time for any reason and expect people to think it is ok, when IRL they would be less likely to do so (although not totally against it considering some people on here).

Can you not see that? Do I really need to give a lecture on principles and ethics? Particularly to a segment of the readers/posters on here that when they have nothing intelligent to add say simpy "no u" or whatever pathetic regurgitated meme they can think of at the time.

It should be apparent, but if not, then I truly feel sorry for all those that cannot see it.

Edit for grammar

He didn't put an asterisk next to APL. 99.5% of GLB will probably never even see this topic.

And of the people who did see the topic, most probably don't even care.

You mean you didn't already expect un-professionalism from this game? Please tell more.

Is it necessary to further fan the flames after a poster says they are willing to drop it? You seem to have to get in the last word and usually have the least to say about things.

this is an online video game...we should only be so lucky that the developer himself is this laid back and can show a little fun sometimes...

to get this worked up over the expression "wussed out" (on the internet nonetheless) is just what is wrong with people in general these days...so overly sensitive to the slightest remark...especially when it likely wasn't even aimed towards you and you know it..

the games developer wants to see some good competition...its why he broke down and created the WL in the first place...and while he probably feels he shouldn't force people into it, it still disappoints him to see people shy from the competition...it disappoints us all tbh...
