I build stages and run video cameras for a living. My wife and I both do it, in Baltimore.

The Virgin Music Festival is coming next week, and it's a couple stages over a couple days with just a couple bands... like 40 or so. We do it at the racetrack that they hold one of the triple crown races...

It's a big fucking event and we have to build from nothing 2 theatres, 2 control rooms and multiple spotlight towers (among other things) in 2 days on soft dirt. Then we have to run the event, then take it back down...

A friend of ours is taking my son off our hands for about a week-10 days, so my wife and I will probably just bring our dog to the site and stay there for the most part the entire week. It sucks (but shit, when your job is putting on the biggest concerts in the country, there's no room for bitching), but at the end of the week, if we both work as much as is possible, we could walk away about 6-7 grand richer. It'll probably end up being about half that, but a couple people WILL make over 3k just by themselves this week.

Baltimore? I thought you were in LA for some reason.

I used to do staging while I was going to school for audio. It wasn't fun. I'm sure your job is a bit more glamorous than mine was.

heh, this past weekend I work the rock the bells tour... that shit was NUTS.

The last 2 days, my wife has been building some Disney show... it wasn't fun for her at all. Disney is fun to watch, but not much fun to work for.

To the stampede and the destroyers, who are in the tourny; good luck. I will be of whatever help I can be. I'd love to see the WEPL do well here, and there is no hating on the Pimps or the Goats for rejecting their offers, but I am glad to see us represented there amongst the best.

Talk with us Scorgasms about whatever help you might need; be glad to do what we can.

Who is ArthurRiot

I did an unpaid internship as a director's assistant on a film in Chicago this past month, and it wasn't glamorous at all. There's really a crappy side to working in showbusiness with ridiculous deadlines. There's at least the hope of moving up one day and making the big money. Best of luck ArthurRiot, make that 7K so's u can spend it on flex points

'Internship Assistant' is code for 'nothing anyone else wants to do' in this business. It's also called 'Production intern' or, if you are lucky enough to get paid a nominal fee for it 'Production Assistant'. SOMETIMES they lie and call it 'Assistant Producer' although that is also another job entirely.

At the end of the day, I really love this job. It's always new, you get to do some REALLY cool shit, and it can pay well if you go the union route. The deadlines ARE huge, because SO MANY people depend on certain things, and everyone tries to cut corners wherever possible (unless you are doing the latest Summer Blockbuster, in which case everyone gets paid 4x as much). But Chicago is a bitch to work in; lots of 'issues'. In NYC it's very 'political', but in Chicago it's... well, it's something else far too often.

Baltimore if really cool, though.

Baltimore's got a film scene? I heard about Boston but not Baltimore as much. And yeah, my title might as well have been "coffee bitch," haha. But yeah, I like working on something I think matters. And the people are really cool. We definitely had 'issues' in Chitown, are you talking about the city's bureacracy on films or just logistics issues? Sound was a big problem for us and getting extras just didn't work.

Baltimore has a little film scene, mostly that is in DC, though. The end of The Wire put a bunch of the labor back on the market, so that had it's pluses and minuses. Still, we've had a few good sized movies here, and a lot of those 'save the last dance' type films seems to get shot here, as well.

Moreso, however, is the concert/theatre scene. An arena, a stadium, an ampitheatre, a pier venue, all for concerts, plus a couple theatres, an operahouse and the DC opera warehouse make for some fun times.

Coffee bitch, copy boy, 'get my car' kid... you really are just there to assist. With any luck, someone asks your opinion, and you have a good idea, but mostly you just are the gopher. "Hey you! We need Donuts! Why don't you Gofer 'em?"

Haha....what a retard. Doesn´t sound like he´s ever played football in his life.

With few exceptions, NFL players are almost all fairly equal physically.

My favorite was "0 lvl 25 players = not good enough"
Apparently 1 lvl 25 player will allow a team of lvl 1's to beat a team of lvl 24s...
If I had only known this information sooner!!!

That's what you get for not being 100% mental.
