No rounding up. 5 points is right. The 5 points you earned is basically the "shut out the other team" points.

It looks like a decent scoring system, though it's obviously missing fumbles - they should be added, as they're relevant for any defensive player. Also int-returning yards are generally pretty hard to get, so I would set it to 5 yards = 1 point. The -1 for giving up a tackle, but offsets for 'good' tackles looks like a fair way to do it, though it'll be a bit of a pain to count up. (I only skimmed over the thread, so sorry if those points have been addressed.)

duly noted about the fumbles. i just added them.

as for the int yards. while it is tough to get those on the average INT, its easy to get a LOT of them if you happen to pick the ball in the flats. you could run it back 90 yards just because of where the pass was thrown. that would be a total of 27 points just because of the placement of the pass. (18+6+3)

im not going to include my CBs in this challenge...for the reason being that, the stats you guys have set up are ridulous. lol. And no offense...just my opinion.

Every 10 plays: 1 point - who cares how many plays...shouldnt recieve points for plays
Every tackle (doesn't matter who it's on): -1 point - ...just stupid
Every tackle on a receiver you're not assigned (man coverage only): 1 point - no point awarded here, cause if u make the tackle, u also get -1...lol
Every sack: 2 points - A sack is a tackle...so you get +2, but then -1 because u made a tackle...lol stupid
Every tackle on a RB: 2 points - lol...once again, u make the tackle u get 2 points...but because u made a tackle, its -1, so basically u get 1 point here...
Every missed tackle: -2 points - so if u miss a tackle u get -2, but if u make it -1...again dumb
Every pass deflected: 1 point
Every interception: 3 points
Every special teams tackle: 1 point - doesnt it say above,"Every tackle (doesn't matter who it's on): -1 point" but yet you get a point for makign the SP tackle, but then u take it away because u made a tackle..so basically u get 0 points for a SP tackle...stupid

Pass deflections should be atleast two points me thinks, you should get points for tackling anybody but your WR, and why do we assign points for special teams? I fail to see how that has anything to do with being a CB.

looks like you too are starting to see how stupid the stats for CBs are. lol

Corey/Shorteous...where were you guys when I was trying to make these points at the beginning of the thread?

As far as the special teams tackles are concerned, I was a proponent of them from the beginning. In the sense that it's suggested that a good CB will prevent a WR from catching the ball at all, a regular tackle on defense is said to be -1. A special teams tackle will still show up on the box score as a tackle, but since a CB covering kicks didn't "fail" as a pass defender, the +1 for a ST tackle balances out the normal -1.

I was busy worry about the advanced ai bugs now that that has all cooled i've back over here. I can see your point on special teams. As long as it is evened out that's cool. My player doesn't play special teams so it makes it easy on me. I would like to see deflections increased and no penalty for tackling other WR's. Just because the guy next to me allows a catch doesn't me I should get nothing for running over there and tackling his guy to. That's kudos on me as a CB.

You won't get an argument from me regarding tackles. I proposed all tackles being worth 0, and bonus points added for circumstances.

I see the argument about PDs being only 1 point, though. As it stands now, 3 PD = 1 INT, which seems fair. Making PDs worth two means that 3 PD = 2 INT, and 5 PD are more valuable than 3 INT. Ask your defensive coordinators, do you want a guy that tips 5 balls, or catches 3?

i think you missed the point entirely.

basically the +2 on an RB is supposed to offset the -1 for the tackle. therefore in essence, an RB tackle is worth 1 point. this is intended.

the +1 for a tackle on another receiver offsets the -1 for the tackle which equals zero, which is intended because 99% of the time, tackling a different receiver is a result of being at the right place at the right time, not really a skill thing.

the +1 for special teams tackles is also an offset for the -1 for tackles. it totals up to 0 points, which is intended because, as you said, special teams tackles dont have anything to do with you CB ability

everything else you said follows the same concept so im not going to keep explaining.

jp, I am personally content with the present setup. I'm willing and interested to see how it turns out.

But I see no problem with exploring the ideas on this thread, separate from the actual competition thread in the Recap Forum. If it ends up that the scores don't quite jibe with our gut instincts on who is a good CB, then we have this discussion to fall back on to get something set up for next season.

I'd like the record to reflect that I've never said your ideas were "ridulous," "just stupid," or "lol."

I agree with you there. Nothing wrong with discussing it in this thread.

And if one happens to think my ideas are "ridiculous", "just stupid" or "lol", then don't join my challenge. That's fine with me. I wouldn't really want you to join anyway.

If they are meant to offset each other...then why even have them listed...?

it works in conjunction with the 10 plays +1 thing.

the way i see it, if you had 50 plays without a single tackle, theres a good chance you shut down your receiver. thats 5 points.

i made it +1 for every ten plays because its a lot harder to shut down a receiver for 50 plays than it is for 20 plays and so on so forth. so its like, for every ten plays without a tackle, you get a point. if you DID get a tackle, it cancels out that point. BUT, if that tackle is on a different receiver, or special teams, you get that point back. plus, if that tackle is on an RB or the QB, you get an extra point on top of that.

geez....way too much. I wont be adding Deion or Lock in this. It will take longer to tally their points than to scout a team.
