I realize those that don't coordinate, or have had their AIs set for ages won't care and will want to start ASAP, but the rest - it would be nice to get a little of the lost time back.
Agreed but won’t happen

When I try to add players to ST DC preset it gives me an error if it is more than 2-4 players assigned at once.
Did the whole thing and it didn't save first time.

At this point, the brand itself holds very little value. The only real asset is the existing user base, and even that is relatively small and wouldn’t be difficult to replicate with a fresh start.
That said, the product isn’t bad. In fact, it’s improved significantly since the player-building overhaul imo. With even a modest investment in advertising and outreach, growth would be far more achievable.
Given all of that, making an offer to acquire this site doesn’t make much sense. Starting from scratch would likely be the smarter move.

I think you're under-estimating just how complicated the sim engine is. Granted, it's not perfect - the passing game for example still needs to be balanced to make INTs much tougher. But overall, I think what they've managed to create here is really, really good. It just needs some TLC from an owner who is still interested in running it.
I also think there is value in their database of former agents. As a starting point for re-marketing the game, I believe that could be quite helpful.

I know you're over-estimating just how old and obsolete the coding of this game is. The source code says this was built with HTML 4.01 - which was finalized in 1999! HTML 5 has been out for over a decade. So the source code is a huge red flag as most browsers will start discontinue support for HTML 4.
Prototype - Died in 2010
Scriptaculous - Dead
This is just legacy code on top of legacy code. Probably why you won't ever get any updates on this game because it would break the sim for good most likely.
Edit: To add, when Bort created this years ago he was able to do it pretty damn well with the tools that were available back then. Things have changed immensely over the past 20 years.

Damn. I hadn't even thought about that. We probably only have a couple of years left as it is, then.
