No, the WL folks don't care about winning anywhere even remotely close to what they used to. The evidence is right in front of your eyes. Look at the games and you can see that the old guard didn't even bother changing AIs.

Because you just got here and therefore you don't get it yet. The longer you do anything, the less it means. Many of us have been coordinating in the WL for 20+ seasons now, which is over three years. When I won my reaction was "that's it? Well what do I do now?"

Everyone would prefer winning to not winning, but that's absolutely not the same as caring enough to invest effort. The really brutal reality is that after you win gold, especially if you've been trying to do so for a while, you realize how utterly empty and meaningless the "achievement" is. That's even more true once you sit back and think about how much time and effort you put into reaching that goal. I imagine that tautology's constant failure to achieve that stings him, but if he outlasts the rest of us and finally wins then I really doubt it will feel like any sort of vindication. It will probably just make him feel silly for obsessing about it in the first place. Or maybe I'm projecting too much of my own feelings there. I intend to win WL gold in s36 and I plan to try, but I'm not anything like I was before winning.

Honestly there are only two reasons I'm even still here:

#1) I have nothing better to do. If I found another game of this type that I enjoyed, that would be a big factor.

#2) I appreciate the people I've met. I don't know Gart888, but I like him. I appreciate arguing with Deathblade. I enjoy talking shop with bhall & evileyez. These faceless personalities have value to me, and GLB is my means of interacting with them.

I don't change my AIs all the time. I didn't change a single thing in my DAI for the WL Gold game. That doesn't mean I don't care. I just trust what's in it.

I would love a baseball sim, especially if it was as weird as this game. Simdynasty.com is super fun, but it's a bit of a solo operation. If a game kept the need for other agents to make players, that would be super fun. Baseball lends itself to math much more than football. Were it not for building dots and the need to interact, this game would be a lot less fun. The forums and recruiting are really the genius of it.
