I generally don't expect anything from recruitees or care if they're responsive. But there are certain agents that I offer or PM seemingly every offseason and not only do they ignore it, but then their dots are always free agents again the following season. HELLO AGENT YOU ARE SHITTY AT PICKING TEAMS!

A long time ago when this game was newish, PMs worked. Now that pretty much anyone that knows how to build a dot knows what to look for in a team PMs are useless. When I have a FA I tell people not to send me PMs but rather just send an offer and I'll look at their team. Most people I know have that approach.

"Don't send me some bullshit about your team via PM. Just send the offer and let me look things over."

I disagree. I had a lot of openings to fill on the Paladins this past offseason, and PMs are what filled them for me.

Now, sending overly-wrong and poorly-written PMs... that IS a waste of time, and that's the biggest mistake a lot of people make. Any PMs you send should be short, sweet, and to the point. Include a link to the team to make it easy on the agent, give them a little info on the team -- and i mean a little info -- and make it clear you're available to answer any questions. Use a copy/pasta template, personalize it a little for each agent (and if you spend more than 30 seconds on personalizing it, that's too long), and hit Send. Wash, rinse, repeat. Repeat A LOT.

If the agent has to hit Page Down to read all of your PM, you lose.

I used to send the most awesome PMs. Would tell them they had the most wonderful dot ever, laid out our future plans, link top plays we had from their position the previous season, tell them how active and wonderful the team forum is, ect...

The vast majority didn't even open the damn PM. lol

I gave that shit up a long time ago and started actually having an easier time recruiting.

That brings me to another question... when did you start recruiting? Day 40?

Recruiting is all-season long, my friend. It's never too early.

On Day 20, I was sending 2-sentence PMs to dots I was interested in that had contracts that would expire at the end of the season, asking them if they'd be looking for a new home or not. Most got ignored (of course), but I was expecting that. Some said they'd be staying put, and I thanked them and left them alone. A few of them replied that yes, they would be looking for a new home, and boom! I was in with them. And a good chunk of them are on my team now... they committed early, I sent them a reminder on Day 38 and an offer on Day 42, and they're on my roster now.

Same here. My PMs are WAY shorter now than they used to be, and now I, too, have an easier time recruiting.

Same reason I basically just started putting the team link and team needs in our ad in the TLFP forum.

For so many seasons I would put an ad up early and get little response. Noticed that a lot of teams that just slapped an ad up on day 42 and were signing a lot of dots from people I had PM'd. I thought "why the fuck am I putting so much into promoting my team in our ad and sending PMs?".

I shortened up my PMs to a couple of sentences. Very few opened the PMs.

You can put the most awesome porn links in a PM or offer to give them money. Put whatever you want in there because it doesn't matter since most don't open it.

TLFP is a joke. I can count on one hand the number of dots I've picked up through TLFP.

I put up an ad there every season anyway, because ya never know, but yeah, I really don't put a lot of effort into it.

But with my new use of shorter PMs and the success I've found with them, I simply can't agree that PMs are a waste of time. IF DONE RIGHT, they're invaluable. IF DONE WRONG, they're a waste of time. And most people seem to do them wrong.

You must be sending PMs to people that post in the forums. Almost 100% of the people I've PM'd that regularly post in the forums open and respond. Almost no one that rarely or never posts in the forums open the PMs I sent them.

Most don't open it, but some do.

I want agents who are going to invest themselves a little in my team. Why would I want someone who is so lazy that they just auto-accept the first offer they get? That guy's probably gonna be gone at the end of the season, and then I have to recruit AGAIN to replace him. But the guy who reads my PM and gets into a conversation with me, I have a chance to win him over for life. He's not just committing a dot to me today, but he may also be the guy who builds 5 new dots for my next Rookie team 3 seasons down the road.

Nope. I did a lot of cold-calling this past season to a lot of agents who I never see post anywhere in the forums.

Sorry to argue with you so much, but I'm always amused when someone tells me something doesn't work when it's working just fine for me right now.

Okay, that's better than a lot of people, so you get a cookie. Still really need to start earlier than that, though. By the mid-30s, a lot of dots have already made up their minds what they're doing next season. You need to get to them before they've made up their minds, so they know your team is an option for them.
