Amen. When I used to OC, I had an A.I. that would attack weaknesses in the defense with a bit of borderline spam penalty thrown in to exploit things, but the problem is I'd have to radically change up my offense every game (unless it was a creampuff opp) to not only exploit new things, but to keep DC's guessing. Post-game, I then would type a few paragraphs on the team forum on what went wrong and right. I'd also encourage members to vote on a "player of the game" and even created a team website. No, I am not shitting you.

I took this shit very seriously. Took me a few seasons before I realized I could be doing something more productive with my life and that my owner wasn't as enthusiastic as I was. He sold the team, and I was left like a fool. Go figure.

lol a lot of teams actually had team websites. I started a league rankings and news site for USA A#4. Ya...it was that serious.

After giving this some thought, I believe that GLB has missed a great opportunity here. Give most people a few seasons under their belts and they can build decent dots... give them a little more time and they can build good dots. But OC's and DC's take MUCH longer to get to those levels of skill. If you took away ALL the OC's and DC's from the game, you'd still have good dots against good dots... but you'd have a rotten sim. There's no encouragement from GLB to be an OC or a DC... it's simply something a select few endeavor to become great at. And there's nothing in being an OC or a DC that leaves you feeling like the countless hours you've spent are worth the results you've obtained. I liken it to being a great groundskeeper. If you don't LOVE your job with a strange psychosis and OCD mentality, then it's a damn long, hard, boring, tedious, repetitious pile of work that seldom receives any recognition (unless you do a poor job... then you'll know right quick).
There's room here for GLB to offer OC's and DC's some kind of incentive to exist... because without them this game is truly dead/dying. Perhaps some flex discounts now and then... or free PeeWee team ownership. Something that stands apart from the rest of the game that incentivizes people to become OC's and DC's... or at least rewards them for their contributions to the game.
The harder it is to do the job... along with the serious lack of incentives to continue to do that job... eventually causes people to not want to do that job. Win's and championships come and go and offer a little joy to the OC's and DC's... but time becomes the enemy and wears away the quality of those accomplishments until you have apathy... and then you just don't want to put in the countless hours for the mediocre rewards.

Do it yourself and make a lead team for your crew. Buy a younger team. Train a DC and OC. Let them learn. Ease them into your lead team over time.

I have no idea why people want to own teams and not coordinate at lest one third of the team. What is the point? The best thing you can do is find two other people with time on their hands and a fearlessness about asking vets how too coordinate. Then split up special teams, o, and d. Learn the ropes. Win some lower level titles and begin to get better builders on board. Win some, get better, make pro, win more, try for wl. It takes forever. Enjoy the non elite gifs. They build self esteem, regardless of how hard it is. You still did it and learned.

Find a mentor that will give you a shell o or d AI.

While there is merit in this post, I could never see GLB giving flex away to coordinators. What they should have done long ago was develop some sort of registration for coordinators so they could actually track who is OCing or DCing or any other actual GM duty. Then you would not only have an actual GLB record of how well you did in those roles, but another competition in the game where you would want to move up the ladder. From there you can create rewards or HOF or some crap that would get people interested in doing the job.

Yea do it yourself. I didnt learn to OC until my OC took a few seasons off. Thats where my network really helped me out. I learned and trained on one of our pro teams. But its not that hard, just ask lots of stupid questions. Lots of people are willing to help.

That's actually a really good idea. Some official level of credentialing. How many games your AI was used would be a good way to track it even without official OC title.

Great idea. But it agrees with my plea for something for being an OC or a DC (or both) because, as it is now, I'm getting a chuckle when I see posts from some about how their AI is going against their own AI on another team. If that was something that only happened a few times a season (in all of GLB), then the system is fine... but I suspect it's much more than that which means there aren't a lot of OC's and DC's out there. That's a big workload for the few and little respect from GLB for keeping their game afloat.

A long time ago I use to do both (not at the same time)... but doing it along with my other GLB activities swallowed up SO much of my time. Burnout came quick as I was spending more time here than anywhere else and what was fun quickly turned into a big bother and was spoiling the game for me. I've waited patiently for GLB to do stuff... like making copying AI's, packages, plays, and other stuff that eats up time... quicker and easier to accomplish. That hasn't happened and doesn't look like it will anytime soon.
