I see this all the time. The WR has a huge cushion and as soon as the QB lets go of the ball the WR comes to a dead stop and loses the cushion. These should be decent gains, instead they are somehow deflected when IRL there is no way the defender should even be an issue.

Maybe he was trying to hit the TE in stride and the WR thought it was his

weren't you just saying yesterday you wished they'd stop working on the passing stuff??

Thats why. The juke isnt always necessary. Proper leading could lead to the 1st in it of itself

This doesn't explain the one in the OP, but a lot of times it appears that the QB won't lead if the WR is running towards the sideline. I think there were some problems back in the day with passes being led out of bounds so Bort put in something to stop that. I wonder if that could be toned down or removed.

I think you're on to something here.

^ QB starts to throw while the dot is midway between the hash marks

^ QB starts to throw when the WR has already crossed both hash marks

Edit: It's also worth noting that real QBs lead players out of bounds fairly often... although real QBs do often try to pinpoint it right at the sideline which GLB QBs weren't doing

The issue in the OP is the only way passes are completed at the low level. (not like anyone cares, but it's true)

Whenever my QB tries to lead the WRs, it always turns into a disaster. I would rather have him McNabb it at the WRs every time than lead them.

Yeah but throwing it into the dirt still wouldn't be a completion.
