What is the fix though? The OP you made just says don't make players stop running down field. That will cause other potential problems like teams reaching the ball before the returner (when it bounces past a slow returner). This could cause teams to score hundreds of points in a bad set up and slow down overall simming when those crop up.

How should they keep going? Do they stay in lanes? do they head at the returner before he has the ball? do they just follow the ball?

What happens when you get situations where a team has a lot of fast players that reach the BW and get stuffed when the returner gets the ball and then runs for TD's all game because they have no one down field that have a chance of cutting him off? Then we'll have to change it again.

I'm all for making ST adjustments, but they have to be made thoughtfully. I've been hoping for changes for 15 seasons, but look at what happened when they changed how returners run. For 10+ seasons we had punts where the returner would basically jerk back and forth on the sidelines trying to juke/evade people and end up barely able to move. Then it was changed and player on the sidelines got stuck so that they have to run straight ahead and plow right into anyone in their way.

If you can come up with some specific ways to change the ST on kickoffs maybe that don't break something else maybe they would do it. Add some idea's to the OP.

One temporary fix until ST are completely fixed in general is to make the return team blockers stop moving as well. I'm not being paid to develop the game, the players shouldn't have to come up with fixes for things that aren't right.

even if the blockers stop, any decent returner will probably have some first step SAs. that gives him a huge advantage over the defenders whom have stopped.

the trick is punts and kick offs are fundamentally different

a punt is a dead ball change of possession. like when the PR chooses to let the ball go... when it's touched by the punting team, the play is over. the ball becomes live only after the return team touches it, which is where fumbles come in.

however, a kick off is always a live ball. there's no special "on-sides" kicking rules. It just happens to be more advantageous if the kick team is looking for a short kick before it happens. Kickoffs are always live.

the kickoff team should never stop.

either stop whatever is in the script that makes kickoffs drift outside, or add in an option to where there could be 2 kick returners (left and right) so they can cover the directional kicks--if needed.

what if we had it coded that the kickoff teams dont stop at all. but allow the returning team to have the option of two deep returners. or some special teams plays.

On kickoffs, if the returner is not near the ball when it hits the ground have it coded to move him there and give him the ball. Seems pretty simple to me. "Warping" and no missed kicks seems far better than the garbage we have now.

AS stupid as warping sounds it is alot better than the current format.

+1 to this

another huge problem to me is the complete inconsistency of KO length. the coverage team is hard coded to run to certain spots and when you get some absurdly short kick, the coverage team runs right by the ball and by the time the kr gets it, its an easy TD. i thought the early seasons of glb the st needed some tweaks, but those season are heads and shoulders above the FUBARness that we have now.

Seems to me if you place the KR at the goal line or the 10 yd line the ball couldn't go over his head without being a touch back. Also the KR could run forward and catch the ball and keep running. this way neither the KR team or KO team would need to stop. should solve the problem. but then what do I know

and this is why I don't make players or buy teams anymore. their refusal to fix things like this.
