To put things in further perspective of Gart's claim of EPL being the greatest, one should look at the top tier of English football beyond the formation of the Premiership:
112 Titles since 1889. Of the 10 teams have a title and are not in EPL, they account for 21 titles. All of the 10 teams have been in the Premiership with in the last 20 years, and are all either in Championship or League One. So it used to be that anyone could build a contender in England. That is no longer the case

also the PL is money money money. La Liga AND Serie A are better leagues for football IMO

That is absolutely crazy talk.

If you took the winners of the Top Division in the English football game then it would have many others, but since the Premier League came about in 1992 the money ends up going to the same teams (richer get richer etc) so Its a bunch harder for smaller teams to win it now. Virtually impossible infact.

For fairness then NFL is better but I love the Premier League.

Champions League, I think, is a better comparison for WL.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_European_Cup_and_UEFA_Champions_League_winners

Nottingham Forest won twice, and currently sits in the second division of English football. They've been as low as the third division, as recently as two years ago. Every other winner is pretty much a perpetual fixture in the top flight of their country's league, and in the Champions League.

champions league is more like the WPT used to be here. it's not an actual league like WL is.

wtf no. italian soccer is terrible, and la liga has the same problems as the premier league except you have a big two instead of a big four (and a case could be made for including spurs and man city into a big 6)

BUT the style of football in both is much better than PL. I will give you Serie A isnt much better, but La Liga is EXCELLENT football standard, better than PL. PL has the problem of too much English football - kick it long and hope someone to poke it in. Just watch Man U vs Barca in the champs league this season. Barca just moved so gracefully in and out of the goal it was like rape

OK OK only in terms of Serie A. But I am a Juventus supporter so...

La Liga is definitely > PL

La Liga = More Skill
Serie A = Snooze
Premier League = More excitment. Can't be beat in that respect.

I dont know how you can say La Liga isnt about money? How many teams have won that over the last 20 years? Erm Barca/Real and they are hardly shy of spending the odd 80m on a player now are they.

Well when I said money I meant that Man U, Man City, Tottenham, Liverpool, Chelsea and soon QPR have been/will be spending ridiculous amounts of Sterling on players.
La Liga has two, maybe three teams in the same boat. But the other teams in La Liga have home grown talent and have been brought up in a great home system, and therefore have ++++++skill over the PL. I like the PL, dont get me wrong, I watch it more than La Liga, but when I watch La Liga I see the difference

lol no.

You say that the spanish league is better than the PL, which is way off. LL has no depth what so ever. They have the two best teams, but not the best league. The PL as a whole is a much better league.

(anybody have those numbers for the premiership?)

Can't think of any real sports that have 50% turnover in the league each season, either. Premiere League only has 15% turnover.

sure, doesn't change the fact that 50% of former league champions remaining in the league is p low.
also, turnover rate has nothing to do with valhalla or esl no longer being here.
