Hip Hop/Rap is so fragmented that there are a shit-ton of genres within the genre. Kanye is no doubt a talented lyricist and producer, just not my cup-a-tea. Common is definitely a great artist,

saw Common and Kanye live at Bonnaroo.
Common was good, but my buddy had just seen him in Cinci not too long bafore, and said the performances were identical... cautiously contrived.
Kanye came on stage more than 2 hours late, then only left himself time to play 4 or 5 songs before his "Glow in the dark" tour theme was ruined by the sunrise. He got booed, and people throw toilet paper at him lol. Everything about the "ego" is true, but otherwise I enjoy what he does
