Okay, I decided to continue my contributions to the power rankings. Again my formula is based on offensive rankings, defensive rankings, score differential, and wins. I did put a little but more weight into the wins this week, though I don’t know that it made a huge difference. Last week’s rankings are in parentheses
Oh, and yes as of this week I'm apparently drinking the Doom Kool-Aid.
1. New York Doom (1)
New York remains first in the power rankings, but they lost a lot of ground this week. They remain undefeated and first in rushing offense by over 250 yards. However, they dropped a spot in rushing defense (1 to 2), 2 in scoring defense (2 to 4), 3 in scoring offense (1 to 4), and 5 in pass defense (5 to 10).
2. Honolulu Warriors (6)
What New York lost, Honolulu gained after an easy win against the Houston Panthers, which boosted their statistical rankings. They now trail the Doom by one-tenth of a point with the first ranked rushing and scoring defense and second ranked rushing and scoring defense.
3. Houston Outlaws (2)
Houston loses one overall spot to Honolulu, but lost 6 spots in scoring defense while moving into the top ranking in scoring offense. They are also close on the heels of the Doom, only half a point out of first.
4. Hollywood Stars (3)
Hollywood also dropped one spot to make room for the rising Warriors. They retain the top passing offense, but lose 5 places (16 to 21) in pass defense.
5. Omaha Shockers (5)
The Shockers remain in 5th place although they dropped in a couple statistical categories. They did gain a spot or two in other categories to help offset those losses and remained undefeated. But they’ll have to make some improvements to stay in the top 5.
6. South Texas Thunder (9)
No drastic changes in the statistical rankings for the Thunder, but they made small improvements in almost every category. The big climb in their power ranking is mostly due to other teams dropping in rankings.
7. Indianapolis Gangsters (4)
Indianapolis drops 3 spots despite remaining undefeated in the East and keeping one of the top 5 rushing offenses and defenses. Their biggest problem was going from bad to worst in pass defense. Combined with their mediocre pass offense and scoring defense, their dead last passing defense is keeping them out of the top 5.
8. Montpelier Morticians (11)
Montpelier breaks into the Top 10 this week with the league’s top passing defense and a huge game for their passing offense, which jumped 6 spots (24 to 18). Every other statistical ranking remained about the same and most improved slightly.
9. Miami Carniceros (8)
The Carniceros are another case of an undefeated Eastern Conference team that simply has not dominated their competition thus far. Perhaps they’ve played some of their toughest games early on, but right now they have 3 rankings in the bottom of the league and only their rushing defense ranks in the top 5 (4).
10. Kansas City Wiz (10)
Even after a loss, the Wiz were able to retain their top 10 spot, barely fending off Cary and Miami (Sharks), each trailing by less than a point. Their top 5 passing offense and top 10 scoring defense makes up for mediocre rankings in the rest of the categories.
11. Cary Carpetbaggers (7)
12. Miami Sharks (12)
13. Chicago Dire Wolves (20)
14. St. Louis Beer Barons (12)
15. Charlotts Clamjousters (19)
16. Riverside Renegades (16)
17. Ho Playbook (15)
18. Scranton Tunas (14)
19. BC Lions (22)
20. Albany Mammoths (17)
21. Radio City Irrelevants (24)
22. El Paso Bandits (18)
23. Bay Area Bombsquad (N/A…j/k #21)
24. Cleveland Steamer (27)
25. Palmyra Cougars (23)
26. Elite Sea Team (25)
27. Tampa Elite (28)
28. Pittsburgh Irons (26)
29. Nashville Dores (29)
30. TEAM Chuck Norris (30)
31. Los Angeles Avengers (32)
32. Houston Panthers (31)
