Probably so... I just clicked.

I think I know what happened...Boomer, their GM, had took 4 of his players off the team, which seemed to start a chain reaction of players wanting to leave. So, why not just jump while the ship is sinking instead of rebuilding, and go somewhere to dominate. Then say real life is holding you back even though you still spend as much time on the game, and that's the reason for gutting the team.

Well guys, we are not going to be dominate anymore in SEA AA (AAA#2 now) since we are losing lots of core players, let's go to BBB to this team I GM and pwn lowbie faces.

While I agree with the underlying idea, and totally understand why you're upset - hell, I'm upset, I don't think the venom is necessary. We don't know these guys in real life, so who are we to judge?
Throwing accusations doesn't do anyone any good. Doubting their word doesn't help relations or do anyone any good.
In no way does it hurt me to believe that the guy has a sick kid, and at the very worst, I'm out some best wishes. It didn't cost me anything, and there's way too many very sick kids in the world. Its entirely plausible. So when giving him the benefit of the doubt doesn't hurt me or cost me anything, while casting stones ruins any chance of civility and maybe finding a solution, or getting them to maybe see if a possible solution can be found, I know I'm going to choose the practical solution, and I urge anyone reading this to join me.

Seriously, I think you guys should at least look into the possibility of moving up a notch or two. There's a ton of teams who'd like to move down, and a bunch of them have legitimate reasons. Why not at least see if you can give someone else a chance to compete and rebuild, and find somewhere that will pose a challenge without ruining any kind of competitive balance here?

At worst, admins can say no, and we're stuck with it, but some honest effort would certainly at least make me a little less ticked off, but then, granted, I'm not in the West. But it'd show some good faith.

I do understand team loyalty and friends wanting to stick together - but seriously, is making the next 40+ days an exercise in people crossing their fingers and hoping for chemistry to work once or twice really worth it?

I predict a lot more threads like this as the season goes. I've already asked my people on the Hustlers for some restraint and to not take things to a personal level, and I hope others will do the same.

Meanwhile, I hope someone with some authority in Albequerque will find the time and effort to make an effort to try and get that team up a level or two where you can all stick together, have your fun, and actually compete, since you found the time and effort to put the team together and get all those people signed in an affordable manner for a BBB team.

Venom may not be needed, but hey, I'm a pretty venomous guy

Look, I don't buy the story...you are giving him the benefit of the doubt..But we both agree, they should move up. If they stay, their intent becomes a bit obvious, at least to me.

Whether you buy the story or not, being civil at least makes it more likely they'll consider the option. If they don't make any effort, then sure, their intent becomes all the more suspect.

Right now, since there's a potential benefit to being diplomatic one direction, and no obvious benefit the other way, I'm going to be practical.

Don't know if anyone cares about my opinion, but I'm torn here:

I hate to hear that something happened in the real world that made Mono drop his team. However, in reading the thread, I see a lot of Hawk's points here too. I too am on a team that has worked its butt off to get better in the regular season, and carried that into the offseason. Are we Title Contenders? Probably not, but I like to think we at least have a chance. However, we would have a chance because we've built a solid core of team players and then filled in holes as necessary. The whole gutting of a team and moving them to the Devils just really sucks in my opinion. As has already been stated by Hawk and Chase, I don't see where this makes it fun anymore for everyone else.

I too would like to see the Devils move up a league and swap out with someone who wants to build their team the "right" way. I hope it happens...

Does anyone think it may be a good idea to petition Bort/DD for this to happen? As it stands, we are leaving it in the hands of Mono and his GM's to do this for us, but I think we may need to take it to the Admins ourselves if we really want to get something done.

Just a thought (sorry for the long post)

I hear what you are saying, but if I try to be civil, my head explodes

I'll tone down my rants a tad

I think the team in SE Asia AAA looks pretty comparable to our league.

Is there anything any of us can do to make it happen? I don't know how the whole "switching leagues" thing works. (excuse my ignorance)

Well that's mature, good thing you don't reflect every other individual in this league that I have spoken with on this topic. You're the type of ignorance I was used to dealing with. Even with the current circumstances that I entered under, this league was a breath of fresh air until you showed up on this thread.

I don't buy it for a second. It seems that every league has a gutter right now, from the A8 league our conference winners went to (Chesapeake is the culprit) to the pro league. Usually a sob story is involved, a car wreck is the most common excuse. They don't care because they can play the 'how could you be upset for a RL issue' card while they laugh on private forums. Personally I think Bort should do one of two things: Move them to a locked league with other cheaters for competition or move them to a locked league with all competition being lvl 1 CPU's (or lvl 70 CPU's haven't made up my mind). Either way, get them out of leagues with 'legitimate' players and owners. If this story was true (I don't believe it), then the players would surely agree to go to a locked league where their players are forced to remain on the team all season and play it out. Wouldn't they? I mean, since the child/wife/mother is in a car wreck/on life support/has dysentery, and they are FORCED to switch leagues to save the gipper and all life on earth, wouldn't they make that ultimate sacrifice for the good of mankind? I mean, it isn't there fault, right? Real life happens and all

You know this is not very different then what Doryano did in the Africa league and he got punished 1.5 million GLB dollars for it. The situation is a bit different, but the bottom line was the same. One team gutted to make another team a lot better. I like to give the benefit of the doubt on things, but I kinda lean towards The Hawk on this one. There were better ways to handle it and if lack of time was an issue, then just assigning someone GM duties would have been a lot faster then manually moving players off to another team.

And this is pretty much exactly what I think I more or less predicted. Give them the benefit of the doubt, at least publically, and there's a fixable situation. Regardless what you really think, is there honestly a reason to post it on here when its going to get in the way of any possible solution?

Fyi people who think I'm caving, or siding with 'them, or whatever, I've spent over 30 hours since we were bounced from the playoffs trying to recruit one single level 15 CB, because that's where we're losing people, and its what killed us, more often than not, when we lost. I don't think that's any secret. With game planning, creative blitzing, personnel changes, a ton of scouting, etc., we were able to deal with it in cases like the Michigan game, but not always. And anyone who has hit the recruiting trail is well enough aware where they've seen me recruiting. I've had no success, in part because I felt it would be very disingenuous to all of my team who we've asked to help us save for their level 16 equipment, while we told them we would do our very best to make sure everyone was fully equipped if they helped us out, to then pay 375K for one player.
I can't even imagine the teams that have lost 5+ people this off-season and didn't have their own guys to fill the spots, and yet are still working to be competitive.

So yeah, to see what was done, I'm quite frankly livid. That's no excuse to make the situation worse. I've asked everyone on my team to be the bigger person here, no matter their personal thoughts, and I'll ask it here.

Do we really want a pointless flame war?

I've gotten indication that a request has been sent to admin to look at trying to move them up. There's a bunch of teams in other leagues who could really use a lower league to rebuild in, and personally, I think it'd be appropriate if a team that got gutted and is working to rebuild on top of the level 10's and 11's they can recruit ended up in the West... but in any case, if they do make an attempt to move to a division where they'd be merely competitive instead of dominating, that will certainly go a long way, for me, of showing that whatever the result, at least part of the intent was just to keep a group of friends together, and not enough thought was put into the consequences.

I'm going to hope, anyway. Because its more productive to be pissed off and trying to find a solution than to be pissed off and making things worse.
