cut out sold teams and those no longer in Pro

wow... this could be interesting

How do you decide who takes that teams place? 12-4 in another Pro League is about 8-8 in USAPL.

No kidding, lose/lose for Bort. This tournament is gay. Teams that made to the 2nd round of the playoffs? So only 8 teams from USAPL are in the tournament? Teams like Lincoln/KKAR/Nash/Compton are not even invited? Gay tourney. PWT is a much better tournament.

I agree. Just let the PWT be the official tourney and get on with it.

WL is probably back on so no need to worry about it.

I do have one question primarily for the owners here though. If there is a WL why would it be such an issue for your team if you got demoted to a random Pro League if you missed the playoffs? That is the way the current system works for demotions. I personally wouldn't see the big issue as it would solve the major problem with the WL right now (how to handle demotions).

It would likely bring parity quicker if the teams that finished 9th end up in OPL rather then CPL/USAPL.

I asked this in the big thread in GLB, but it will get buried without any true answers.

because it would kill USAP, if an OPL team gets demoted here, chances are it wont be a good thing.

How would it kill USAP? We are going for league parity and the goal is WL. It should have no effect on the rest of USAP but mainly on the team that got demoted here.

My question is why would you care to get demoted to OPL instead of USAP when if you currently lose you randomly get demoted anyway?

Lose your friends? Then you probably shouldn't try for WL as you will be in a different forum anyway
Lose your rivalries? Get back to WL and play them again.
Lose your competitiveness? Get better.

It seems as though Bort has this grand idea of all regions being equal. It'll take a good 4-5 seasons before we even get close to that and that's provided teams want to change regions.

The same can be applied to Oceania, Eastern Europe, etc. though. Wanna stop having a revolving door of teams through the World League? Get better.

he's saying if a bad team gets demoted here over and over again it's going to make USAPL look bad

That would be the whole point! The whole idea is to NOT have USAPL be better then OPL. It is to bring equality to them.

I think the opposing leagues owners would be against this though because if they got demoted to USA their chances of getting back to the WPL dropped by a ton and they probably wouldn't like that.

As it should be, why should USAP teams be the only ones who have to struggle to advance? Randomized demotions help to balance the pro leagues which is a good thing. It also seems that most of the demotion roadblocks that Bort is fighting with are due to figuring out how to return teams to their initial leagues. The only real alternatives are extremely unfair to teams in the PWT who advanced from strong leagues.

Don't get me wrong as I agree with you that the other leagues shouldn't be gifted a spot in the WPL, but I am just thinking of what their objections could/would be.

OPL will become better in that scenario if they keep getting the better teams and USAPL gets the worse teams you need to randomize it

Ya, that is what I said, random demotions.

I don't feel like repeating myself 20 times in all these threads, so I'll just quote what I said elsewhere.

While I agree w/ the idea of a World League, the selection process for the initial 32 teams needs some work. Just grabbing the final 4 teams from each Pro League's playoffs does not work, as there isn't parity. Fact of the matter is that you end up w/ some whack competition for the World League as you've got the best teams playing an OPL Alpha team for example.

Granted there are solid teams coming from some good conferences in every region but it's a mess. USAPL for example ends up leaving out the Minnesota Marauders and the Washington Wolfpack in the West due to MEM/HHW/MM/WW all being USAPL West teams. Add in the fact that further promotion would most likely only include the winner of that conference for S11 and you'll have one of those teams missing out for S12 as well (ultimately is just a fold the team situation due to age).

I really have no easy solution that doesn't involve straight opinion (some sort of selection committee).

The World League as a whole has potential to fix some parity amongst the leagues through demotion (demotion from the World League being random region), but making some adjustments to the 'founding' members is a necessity. I'll bash one of my own teams that is slated or the World League. BDR (of OPL Alpha) has absolutely no chance against a top powerhouse. Against a team like MEM or the Shockers this season we'd end up losing by 60+ points. It doesn't make sense for even selection amongst leagues, without maximizing competition.

Perhaps I'm ignorant, but I feel this first class of World League teams needs to be hand selected, and then following seasons being even selection from regions. Demotion into random leagues will even out the Pro Leagues a bit, but in the current state, all you are promoting is for top teams to just hang it up. Truthfully I wouldn't be surprised if we see a WSI type move by a lot of teams, only forcing themselves into a weaker Pro League in an attempt to push themselves into the World League.
