There is no way NY beats Charlotte by 19. I will bet my house on Charlotte +19. I think a closer line is NY -7. They have us beat in a few key matchups but we have beaten better teams than us this season and we are significantly better today than we were in week 6 when NY took us to the woodshed.

It is a minus sign. The minus sign means that team is favored (i.e. NY -7 means NY wins by 7) while a plus sign means that team is the underdog, so if he'd have put NY +7 he'd have been claiming NY will lose by 7.

I have no idea how that convention came to be, but it's the way I've always seen predictions and spreads listed. If anyone knows I'd like to hear it.
