I once witnessed a tiger shark attacking a girl in South Africa, that was pretty horrible. But more people get killed by dogs in the US every year than people have been killed by sharks worldwide in the past 200 years. It's just part of the "sport".

Jaws was part of it but mostly it was because the ocean is really just a giant toilet for sea creatures.

i use to fear, jellyfish and stingrays as well....i didn't like the fact i couldn't see under me

I grew up in California and never surfed. Of course Monterey is not exactly a surfing hot spot. The clam chowder was pretty good though.

I think I would have a better chance of diving out of the way of a moving truck, a animal after me in the water and I'm a goner.
