read back through there. i asked why it was deemed ok that gay was changed to mean homosexual. you posted that it had homosexual meanings since the early 17th century. i posted the wiki page showing you that homosexual was not an alternate meaning for gay even back then. granted that wiki wont work in a college paper but it'll do for this. so basically while gay has had sexual connotations, it hasn't had anything to do with the homosexual community until 20th century. again, why is it ok for homos to change the meaning of the word, but straights can't?

what if i find the very fact that homosexuals use gay to describe themselves is something that i find offensive? where is the concern for that? it doesn't matter, because .edu guys are more concerned with not hurting the feelings of the minority meanwhile you all atempt to alienate the rest of us who just flat don't give a damn about what offends others because now a days almost everything does.

I propose we decide on a set nomenclature for use specifically on this forum.

Instead of saying Black Bastard, we just say typical Black person, instead of saying Dirty Italian, we just say typical Italian Person, Instead of saying Gay Homo, we just say Poopoo Pirate, and so on and so forth in that manner.

Gay has been slang for stupid and dumb since, at least, when I was still in school (10+ years). The same goes for "you're retarded".

You can call it insulting to whoever you like (and it is) but that doesn't change the use and meaning of the word in today's culture.
