I know right. Like I went over to my buddy's house to play Madden and he kept running the same unstoppable play over and over. I was all like "Why not pick a new play and lets have some fun" but then he was all "Why don't you just call this play". So I did, and the game ended in a 70-70 tie. It sucked not having a challenge, but hey, at least neither of us has any pride left to get in the way of all our shame.

Also, fer serial, if you think Off-tackle running is an offensive exploit, you need to look up exploit because it doesn't mean what you think it means.

You really are missing the point. Even if you counter it the game has basically lost its fun and the challenge because then who cares about gameplanning or even trying other plays...you basically go with that 1 play against the defenses 1 play and whoever wins...really how is that fun? And if you want to get technical, we are using it in the since of exploitation.

I guess most people here haven't made the logical next step, to counter the defensive counter with an offensive one....

People complain about this kind of thing, yet we see it every week in the NFL. It's happened over and over, but most recently, Miami has one great week with the Wildcat offense. The next week, every team runs at least a play or 2 with that offense. Defenses figure it out, Miami doesn't do as well. We're just waiting for the next trend. It's just as metagamey there as it is here.

I have a feeling that if Miami ran the same play out of the same set 50 times in a game, it would be shut down no matter what formation the defense was in. The Wildcat offense was new and unexpected, but if for instance they used Pennington at WR every down and ran the same play, the defense would automatically adjust and the offense would be shut down.

Just playing advocate.

EDIT: Watch the first drive of the game and tell me that the players on D wouldn't adjust.

LMAO....You see GL D on 1st & 2nd down in the NFL? What games are you watching?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Teams would get absolutely throttled if they did. Unfortunately, one can not audible in GLB or no would would ever try to use it again. Look, I'm not going to lay out the instructions on how to beat GL D, but I suspect most know. It sure doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out how to sell out to stop the run or sell out to stop the GL D. I'd like to think every GM up here already knows, or they may want to question if they belong. I'm not trying to be a jerk, but you guys really aren't anywhere near as much smarter than the other GMs up here as you think. I absolutely refuse to believe that DDL, Mustangs and a host of other teams don't know how to do it. Hell, most BBB teams know how to. Most just choose not to do it, just like it wouldn't have been fun for me to take either painfully obvious routes to beating your GL D. Nothing wrong with me not wanting to play like that and nothing wrong with you wanting to.

I'm not ripping Philly for doing it. I'm honestly not. I do think it's about the funniest thing I've ever seen reading Tpat's post about how to stop the OT play, like it's some magical tactic that he has discovered and the irony of complaining about teams running OT, but then doing something sooooooooo much more unrealistic on D. If you guys want to be upset about the OT play being ran so much, more power to you...Just blame Bort, not the teams doing it. If Bort had actually spent some time fixing run plays and more than 2 worked, then I'd see you having a strong case. Unfortunately, hell, tragically as far as the game is concerned even, he didn't. It is flat out ridiculous to expect teams to run plays that aren't worth shit or for running teams to become passing teams just because Bort didn't put in the time to make more run plays work with a shit.

Personally, I'm not a fan of setting a huge % of all O plays to OT. I wouldn't enjoy it. On the flip side, I'd say that is far more realistic than playing GL D on 1st down. In HS, college or the NFL, a coach is going to call 1 O play that works more than the rest far more often than he would EVER play GL D on 1st down...In real FB, that'd be like handing the other team the W right on the spot. On the other hand, every team in the NFL knew exactly what play the Packers were going to run on O in certain situations during the "Glory Years." I NEVER heard anyone say they used an "exploit" to win those super bowls, and I don't ever remember a coach being foolish enough to line up in GL D when they telegraphed the sweep over and over.

Again, 100% your right to do it, but it makes arguing that anyone else is trying to use exploits to get the W EXTREMELY weak, IMO.

No I'm not really missing the point, as that's what we've been saying for a full season now.

That's the issue, why bother when you have to use exploits to win.

I know that football is full of old cliches, so people will always come up with "Do whatever it takes to win" and other tired nonsense, but in the end, we're playing a game why not try to make it fun.

In our league, my team played another team (Dryden) that was probably close to our talent level, but likely didn't have much of a shot without using the goalline exploit. Their DC decided before the game he wouldn't use it and followed through. I know we're all internet tough guys with huge epeens, but that was about as class a move as you'll find in MMOs.

Except not at all. I can't call offensive plays with the accuracy that defenses can because for some reason, offensive playcalling is "Play type" based, while defensive is "Formation" based.

That's totally backwards. Defenses call personnel packages based on the offense's personnel package, not on the formation they line up in. When the Colts come out with 3 WRs, the defense might bring out their Nickle package, but when Peyton moves from shotgun to under center, I've yet to see the defense bring on their goalline players.

No, it only applies to Canada Pro. If thinking about the game that way makes you happy, go for it. I, on the other hand, find it tired and lame. So since you have no players here, nor do you GM for any USA Pro teams, I'd prefer you confined that thought disease to Canada Pro.

Edit for clarity: loldots is to GLB as Emo is to High School

So you're of the opinion that the dots aren't lol? Looking at the whole of the game data we have, that takes pretty big stones to say.

/hattip

Edit for clarity: The dots aren't lol is to GLB as "SHE'S A WITCH!!" is to "I'm telling you people, the earth revolves around the sun"

loldots means much more than "aspects of the sim are unrealistic".

As you Canadians have developed that term, it stands for a whole ethos that means "I'm cool and jaded, and know everything about this silly game. I consider it beneath me to openly enjoy any aspect of it, and will mock those who do". You guys are like the hipster/indie rock fans of GLB.

That's a bit of an over-generalization no?

"loldots", to me, is the idea that the game isn't a workable and testable model of American Football.

I'm not going to rant against the game. I have confidence in the direction and vision Bort has for it, but at the same time, acting like these games are a test of much more then "Who found the latest exploit", "Who's FS took the least retarded path to the ball", or "Which team's DE ran around the OT more times" is a little silly.

The game would be much better if people took a deep breath occasionally.

Let em be. We don't want to be like CPL and shun and non "in" peeps here in the USA Pro. Everyone has their opinions and in my own opinion they are all welcome, but we don't have to agree with them .
