He just counted the number of players an owner had, not the number they had on their own team from what I can tell.

So his argument is even weaker than it seems.

The spending of GMs on teams other than the one in this league is irrelevant. What if these "agents" aren't GMs of the other team/teams their players are on. It be much more relevant to look at the spending of the GMs/Owners in relation to the number of players on the team in our league.

I'll agree that Darius' post is a bit flawed due to the fact certain players can't even feasibly play for your own team (usually due to level disparity).

I would say though that as an owner or GM, if you had a player who could play for your team and he was playing for another team instead you'd be a bit foolish to not to have traded him to that other team in return for talent on your own.
