I finally got power back, but no cable, internet, phone, or fax. So only able to check in every few days.

Galveston was destroyed by a hurricane stronger than Ike in 1900. It's actually how nearby Houston became a major city, because a lot of folks were smart enough to not rebuild on the island.
In any case, it won't be me with the hot sauce because I'm terrible at any kind of food prep that doesn't involve a microwave, though I have been known to be able to successfully boil water from time to time.

I used to live in Florida. Lived there for 8 years. I'm used to hurricanes and being without power for weeks. The red cross usually have this place where you can go get water, ice and canned food.

oh i can barbeque something fierce but the meat only has 2 options ... uncooked or "crap that's probably going to be crunchy". i'm far too colorblind to have any inbetween, luckily i like well done with powerful seasoning lol. shooting, fishing, and preparing is where i'm allowed ... following instructions and a thermometer's too embarassing so i usually pass the torch and appreciate the pro's.
jt, your avatar is what gets me up in the mornings. err wait ... it's what makes me excited about each day. ummm ... it's hard to go without the avatars. eh crap ... BOOBIES!

Oh, sorry bout that, we here in Hoosier-ville tossed a party for the hurricanes recently, because we were happy natural selection might be able to finally take out a few humans not bright enough to get...out...of...the...way...of...a...hurricane...

We partied for the first 3-4 days starting the night before the hurricane. Not much you can do about a hurricane so might as well get liquored up and have some fun. Then afterwards you are bored as shit with no power, cable, internet, so might as well get liquored up, start the BBQ pit and cook everything in your freezer before it goes bad. Then after the 3-4 days you start hating the people you have been hanging out with for the last few days so you stop partying and start praying the power comes back on soon. Anyways that's how my hurricane went.

Well, we had it really tough.
A bunch of us got together and caravan'd up to Dallas for the storm and wouldya believe it ... the DVD player went out somewhere around Corsicana! OK, OK, maybe it had something to do with Jason spilling beer in it. But then we had to listen to the guy whose SUV it was whine the whole last 50 miles or so.
The clubs were OK, but we got tossed out for ... well, I don't remember what the hell we got tossed out for, actually.
And then we came back on Sunday and there was a freakin' lovebug convention or something around Huntsville and both SUVs got absolutely plastered. It looked like someone had shot up the things with off-white paintballs.
Then, to top it all off, we couldn't find any fast food places open since the whole rest of the city except my place apparently was blacked out. Talk about annoying! Even the streetlights and traffic signals! We almost didn't even bother coming up the road because the whole neighborhood was pitch black - but sure enough, the light out front was on.
So everyone hung out at my place with the AC at about 70 and we ate chips, soda and beer and put the late game on. And to finish out this wonderful weekend, the announcers kept nattering on about Roethlisburger's separated shoulder and how he was oh so courageous to play in such strong winds (what was left of Ike had made it to Cleveland by that point) and blah blah blah. It wasn't quite as bad as the Jerome Bettis Super Bowl, but it was pretty close.
So, things were pretty harsh all over, let me tell you!
