Torchlight 2 for example...you could only respec your last three levels. I had dozens of different characters even though there was only four classes. Compared to Diablo 3 where you could full respec at any time no matter what...i had one character of each class.

No idea about the games you talk about as GLB is the only internet game I have ever played, but you certainly have a point. Not allowing respecs should motivate people to build more dots to try things out.

Wasnt that first introduced to combat frequent sim changes?

Resetting 15 VA points is miniscule when considering the full scope of the build though. Certainly not 20%

Even if they had the balance they currently do it would have been a nightmare. Because of the constant respecs it is widely known what the best OC's and DC's roll with on their dots and they make it public because of the open knowledge. Not to mention the balance would probably taken longer to swing with many of the OP'd VA's if respecs didn't allow full teams to change at will.

I don't think you can just look at it as 20%. Because for one thing it is going to be a different % each season and lesser a % as well. Also the SP and AP boosts not accounting towards the respec make it even less than that.

Honestly it would depend on which VA you were resetting in GLB, but it actually would be pretty close to being almost exactly like resetting one of the more important VA's.

Take Slippery and Bruiser for instance. In GLB2 that would be like taking 40k out of Power Running for Elusive running. That might however not be a smart choice at all where it was sort of an easy choice in GLB. As you might not have Elusive running very high at that point and you are just making yourself more average at either one. That and you might be locked into a number of power abilities already as well. So somewhat similar to GLB in those regards. Just different in a way of doing things.

I understand that, but still:

yeah, the more limited the respec the better, in general.

in SWG you had to pay with in game money (republic credits) for respecs, and the cost increased considerably for each respec you used.

Not saying GLB should "borrow" ideas from other games, but could be a use for player cash , something that is desperately missing from the RPG perspective at GLB

Was respec something discussed for GLB1 at some point and then shelved until 2?

it was live for at least last 18 months of the game's life, if not 2+ years.

I had started a thread on it in Suggestions back like 5 years ago, it was a super long thread and Bort and other mods posted in it.

http://goallineblitz.com/game/forum_thread.pl?thread_id=1182063&page=1

Maybe thats where the idea came from
