For the record, I earn a LIVING from owning my own web hosting and web design firm. No, not reselling, but I own my own data center, etc.

Only fools will sign up for these "discount" hosting plans. The reason companies sell this "low cost" hosting is because they are ill equipped to run a real company, and will not be able to service your account properly.
