i think people over estimate the effect catching has on drops. it seems theres little variance in drops in people with 20 catching and people with 40. catching seems to have a big effect on the range around you in which youre able to get to a ball, and very little if any effect on how many drops you have per season.

even the sticky hands SA is very vaguely worded. while the skill name itself certainly heavily implies a reduced rate of drop balls, all the description says is that it increases your ability to catch it. that could mean a lot of different things, insofar as theres many variables that determine if you 'catch' a ball. common sense says that because of the name of course it has to do with dropped balls, and id agree, but maybe it impacts more than just that. i mean, OT did have a tackling bar until very recently. Just because the cosmetics of your player page or the name of a skill imply something doesn't mean it has to be true.

that's why i'm tentative about putting too much into catching. i know i need it to go up, but i'm not quire sure what the best way is.

My guy has 40 speed, 35 agility, 35 vision, by the way. I've been focusing all my SPs on that.

yea catching is another thing thats like route run. it can really help compensate at lower levels if you got a QB who is throwing the ball all over the place. you got a bad qb, a high catching means all the sudden youre getting a lot of those poorly thrown balls. so then you see guys posting, wow i raised catching to 40 and i'm a monster! but higher levels when you have more accurate QBs, that huge range you have isnt going to be as big of a help cause those throws are dropping in your lap.

again this isnt me saying something is useless, im just saying these forums are so reactionary and if you take a step back you can easily see how some of those 'OMG I GOTZ TEH BST BUILD EVAH!' posts come about.

Yeah but there have been a lot of posts with the idea that the harder your Qb throws the more catching you may need. If that is in fact the case it evens out.

And as CBs and safeties gets better they may even raise their catching going for the pick .

So I would say you will also need catching at higher levels , also making you able to effectively putting points in the possesion tree SAs .

so in the end no one really knows eh? lolol.

I think I will settle for 30 catching, and as much as I can into sticky hands.

SA's are not worth more than 3 or 4 in each in one tree only... i concentrate more on the physical abilities and my WR had a hell of a season...

well right now I have 0 in SAs. I heard that you don't really see the effectiveness into an SA until you get it up to 6 or 7.

Thus, its better to concentrate on just one or two SAs; I don't even plan on filling out the tree. Just lots into Sticky Hands

1 Hand Catch: Gimmicky. I'd rather have two hands on the ball. It says useful if your QB is under pressure a lot, but do you really want to build your player around the fact that your OLine can't block?

Jump Catch is nice, but you have to have a proper build and the proper offense to support it.

158 receptions last season, and no he wasn't the prefered target.

1 Handed Catch: I'm curious about this one as well. I have points invested in this but its impossiable to know when it happens, if it even happens. I just assume its working when the ball seems way off target and he pulls it down regardless.

0 in 1 hand catch sa, I thought it was pretty good despite being my only catch in the game

I got a speed 70 Agility 50 catch 40 WR. At the moment my custom is in speed altough i didn t pump SA too much (1 route run, 2 sticky and 2 2 2 1 in speed tree not counting custom)
I'm not sure yet but i'm considering switching my custom to possession. Most of my YAC come when i catch the ball behind the defender anyway.

It would also be cool to have the sim tell us when a throw is low, or high. Or maybe having a feature at the end of the game where you can see a target showing all ball you catched and all you didn t.
