I had it on my two CBs that played in WL, one guy led Alpha in picks. If your goal is to dominate in picks, you have to have catch ball % because it helps more than anything, but pick %. What are top WR catch rates? 60%? 50%? Any CB worth his salt will be right on the WR and thus when the WR fails to catch the ball that 40% or 50% of the time, the CB will be in position to take the ball when the WR fails the catch check. Game over.

Ok, 8 picks in WL season 34, here they are:

http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=2343490&pbp_id=8116056 Snatches it away from the TE, Maybe there's a failed catch roll in there, probably not though considering undeflected catch rolls might fail once a season for a WR or TE.

Somehow I got ten, two must be the other guy, but this thing you claim to be happening 40%-50% percent of the time didn't help him on at least 7 of the 8 picks he got or the other 93 times he was targeted.

Just because you had a guy with Catch% get some stuff done doesn't mean Catch% had anything to do with it. You had guys with 80+ catching, 80+ jumping, and 10 Sticky Hands, of course they got a lot of picks. What it absolutely did for you is caused missed tackles, because it wasn't Make Tackle%, got him faked more because it wasn't Avoid Fake%, and got more balls completed against him because he was jumping routes all day long with only 12% INT, if you fail the INT roll, you give up the completion, if you're going to be jumping routes to get picks, you should be maxing out the INT roll instead of chasing the bouncing ball.

And now I've been sucked into this damn thread that comes up twice a year and goes on for pages about 1 in a million shot you might make one day.

I remember Bort in the Q&A saying how the sequence goes whenever any pass is thrown. Something like; The defender get's his shot to intercept or deflect first... then the receiver get's his chance to make the catch... then the defender gets his chance to knock loose or catch ball if catch is failed by the receiver. (rough estimate of Bort's post as best I remember... which could be off in some spots). Based on that info, I've built my "int CB's" to first "deflect", then catch. I don't keep track of the numbers... but I suppose I could with my new Int CB and see how it works. All I know is he gets enough INT's to make me happy and he's damn good at PD's... which is job #1 anyways IMO.

You'd think by now there'd at least be someone who has the basic mechanics (as explained by Bort memorized).

Catch ball % works on defense, only in a specific instance.

It works when
You fail to intercept the ball
You fail to deflect the ball enough for the WR not to get his hands on it
The WR fails to catch it
After he fails to catch the ball you get a second chance to intercept it off his bobble... this is the only time catch ball % does anything on defense.

This is according to Bort.

I'd never put catch ball % on any int build I make.

I understand what you guys are saying, but who knows if it is even working as intended. It would not be the first time that happened, or that Bort contradicted himself in a Q & A. My best interception guys have catch ball % on fairly similar builds, and it's not exactly a small sample size. The younger ones are just getting picks now though, so it is not clear for them yet.
