In all seriousness, the problem is pre-snap dot placement. The SS is placed too high for him to do what you want him to do on this play against this route.

Eh, I don't necessarily think that's the issue, since the FS, SS and CB all start out an equal distance from the scrimmage line. But that brings us to...

This, but, that middle zone is deeper than the others, don't know if that's intended or a bug. Of course, can't select any of the options if it's one of the default zones.

...which brings us back to...

The FS also runs away from the play once the WR leaves his zone, the only reason he stayed up is because the WR entered his zone before he got super deep. Since nobody entered the SSs zone early he just kept running backwards

...which makes me wonder if anyone is actually reading anyone else's posts in this thread.

As long as Alpha and Zeta aren't contracted into one conference he probably won't get mad.

This play was from a Nat Pro game I won actually.

There is no back story, just the play issue which has been going on for way too long.

He was co-depth with the Free Safety that released the CB when it left the weak third and entered the middle third.

Which is why IMO the Safety should have been there to pick it up.

Its really simple.

If there are six zones (ignoring the 1/4s 1/5s for simplicity),

ABC
DEF

then let the dots stay in those six zones unless running with a receiver going through the deep zone.

If for some reason the middle third deep is actually meant to be

=B=
A=C
DEF

Then call it Middle Extra Deep Third give us a freaking real Middle Deep Third that is in between A and C.

There is no logical reason for the middle zone to HAVE to leave a gap under him if he is not running with a receiver. None.

In the Assignment field for your SS, is it at "Cover Zone Deep," "Cover Zone Medium," "Cover Zone Shallow," or something else?

If it's on Cover Zone Deep, try Cover Zone Medium and see if that alters his behavior.

...though that leads me to another question. Is this the only time the SS has done this, or has he done this other times too?

(And just for shits and giggles, what's his Vision? And don't say "high enough..." I've seen people think in the 60s is "high enough." Number, please. Thanks!)

Wait wut?

Whoa

Whooooaaaa

GTFO

If he is saying what I think he is saying, does that work with unders? Or only the deeps?

Okay lets get this straight

I have always thought the Cover Zone Deep/Medium/Shallow merely was meant to trigger which default zone showed up in response (ie it always goes Weak Flat etc if you say shallow) and that when you then selected the zone it covered that zone period, in the same place in that zone every time.

Are you saying that selecting Deep means he goes further back in the zone? Medium middle, shallow he cheats up in it?

Does that also happen with Unders and Flats?

What does it do if you select "Immediately"?

This is either a total red herring or freaking very cool.

Tell me more.

As for the vision thing, it has happened with my dots and in coverage I go for vision 90 any more. Not sure this dot. Given the above not going to check atm.

I already told you that a month ago: http://goallineblitz.com/game/forum_thread.pl?thread_id=5068391&page=2#47292114 Regardless, there's no reason for the SS to continue backing away until he's 15 yards deeper than the deepest receiver. It used to happen a lot but they instituted some kind of fix that eliminated most of it.

Immediately functions something like medium, but it's only really useful for non-defensive backs. Defensive backs read pass first and have to pass checks to recognize the run. Linebackers read run first and have to pass checks to recognize the pass, so zone immediately bypasses that check and has them proceed directly to that zone without it.

yello1, I'd say get with jdbolick for more detail, and use some quick-scrims to run some experiments. Try the different zone settings out and see how your dots react on each one. Since jd's been working with you on one of your OffTopica teams, I'm sure you and him are more on the same page with each other anyway.

Also, if you're seeing lots of plays where your SS is behaving the way he did in the OP and you think it's a bug, I'd put a list of play links together and file a Bug ticket. If it is indeed a bug, they'll add it to the list and fix it. If it's not a bug, then at least you'll know it's working as intended, and you'll know that using "Cover Zone Deep" on a deep zone assignment means there's a chance the dot will go cover the mascot. I still suspect it's working as intended, but you might as well get an answer from a Bugs Mod instead of Random Forum Dude.
