It could be to avoid legal issues? Some states could have laws that would require refunds if an account is closed while a customer has a balance? That's just a guess though.

If it goes inactive, say 6 months, they should automatically close the account and send a reactivation e-mail so if the user decides to reactive at a later time. That way, we have more accurate numbers of users/players/etc.

Not that anyone gives a shit anymore, but would be nice.

Pretty sure they can tell how many active players there are.

Pallow sent me the sauce code for the admin search so I could write him a script at some point. It has "active" as a search option.

Self closing accounts/memberships??? Really? Freakin Facebook is LITTERED WITH DEAD PEOPLE'S accounts and they're NEVER closed... and you expect GLB to be better than that??? Oh my stars and garters!

You can deactivate a Facebook account and if you want your account gone forever you can close it (they don't like to do it, but they do). As for dead people's accounts, those can either be closed by family members or memorialized. There are options which is what the OP is asking about. For GLB I'm not sure if the lack of a way to close an account is a conscious decision or an oversight but I suspect its a conscious decision.
