Plenty of rumors that he said that, but if you're putting that much stock in something that someone else says someone else says someone else says Bort said, well, lolu.

Ha ha...not saying I am putting sp into blocking. I am however pretty sure he did say it. Back in season 2 if i'm not mistaken.

I was here in Season 2. I remember that rumor. I also remember nobody could ever point to the actual Bort quote even back then, so...

And yet like half of your pro level dots have low 30s in confidence...

Wouldn't read too much into that. I try some weird stuff just for fun.

Pretty sure he did say it but if I remember right he said the impact was minimal. Sounds like a good Q & A question.

I always miss the Q&As though.

Y'know, you could always ask him right now...

I believe Bort said that blocking was part of the break block formula, not out-right that it would break blocks. In an era where people would take every little of morsel of info that was given and run amok with it, they would be sorely disappointed if they messed with blocking on their D players.

One thing I think people are failing to consider is that if everyone thinks confidence sucks... and everyone builds low confidence dots... then the playing field is level and you learn nothing for there is no diversity. What you need is a (or several) game(s) between 2 teams of highly similar dots, offenses, and defenses. One team with significantly higher confidence than the other (say around 30+ more per dot). THEN you could actually SEE a difference if there was one to see. Right now the variations abound across the board and what you get through the sim is nothing you can pin numbers or actions to. As it is now, I suspect Novus is about as close to the truth as anyone when he says it's (confidence) worth more than you think, but less than you expect. Perhaps we should all just build 50 confidence dots... nice and mediocre and right in the middle.

Bort got burned by out of control morale spirals a while back and never found a way to balance things after that.
So now, the effect is turned way down.

Offenses dedicated to hurting defense morale can definitely make a difference, but you need a team wide approach to make it happen - Pummel / AOL etc etc ...

I already tried team wide Aura of Intimidation(All line man have 10) + Intimidation(All 15) + General skill(All 10) + Natural Leader(All 15) + Demoralize(10).
I can tell you it really cause morale impact on opponent's team.
But it won't help you win even game, your player build and coordination still the main part. That's all.
And I don't think it deserve that sp spend.

yeah - thats my take too.

You can reduce an opponent's morale if you try hard enough, but the consequent reduction in their performance is not great enough to make the investment worthwhile.

That being said, Bort said that people undervalue confidence for a reason. I'd trust what he said on that.

agreed.

http://wiki.goallineblitz.com/index.php/Player_Attributes

"Blocking

If you plan running any kind of offense you're going to need plenty of good blockers. Blocking helps your player to keep his target occupied longer. For defensive players, knowing how to block helps you know how to shed blocks a little easier. "

This is a cleaned up version from a post a long time ago that stated things like the second part. This is why many people who made players in the first couple seasons (myself included) put some points into things like tackling for O line players.
