It's been said for years now, don't pay attention to the visual, the text is much more accurate.

Back to the question at hand.....It would appear this situation would be a combination of multiple things. First the open man/distance slider.... Anything toward distance is going to have the QB scan the field longer before actually throwing the ball, even if a dot is open. Now, if you watch the replay you'll notice the QB scans to the TE just before he says "I'm Open", maybe he was already in the process of going to his next read at that time which happen to be an open WR further down field. Also, take into account the pressure from the defense and his blitz reaction slider. If he's not being pressured or blitzed he'll likely hold ball longer to read through his progressions longer.

So... open man/distance sliders+blitz reaction slider+Throw away risk+read progressions+defensive pressure= Complete Pass to WR for 30 yards instead of pass attempt to TE for unknow amount of yards.... Looks like a perfect play to me.
