I actually believe Catch22, for what it's worth. If you cherry-pick your data window to start with the moment GLB left Beta and factor in the e-mail blast to inactive users, it makes sense that there's been a temporary uptick in activity. We all saw long-dormant people popping up out of nowhere in the forums around that time, and having two free player slots plus a bunch of unspent Flex would be enough to coax some people out of "retirement" to take another look at the game.
I still found it worth noting, however, that Catch's claim was "much-ridiculed," because it certainly was, which goes to show how much jaded skepticism there is among the userbase about the future of this game. And much of that skepticism is well-founded... since that e-mail blast, no additional outreach efforts have been made to expand the userbase. Bort and Catch seem content to coast on that for a bit while they work on the much-heralded Awesome New Game Of
Destiny, which they believe will attract more players to both the new game
and to GLB.
Most people just straight-up don't believe Catch's claim. I absolutely believe him... I just question the significance of that claim. Every one of those once-inactive users who is back in the game had a reason for leaving in the first place. And since today's GLB is basically just a more-complicated version of yesterday's GLB with fewer players, there's a good chance that, sooner or later, the same reason that made each of those once-inactive players leave the first time is going to make them leave a second time.
So, congrats, Catch, on the temporary influx of additional active users. Too bad you're squandering your chance to
keep them.
