This is the internet, there's plenty of websites to cater to your various whims. Saying that a website centered on a football game is somehow deficient for restricting the postage of tits isn't really any more coherent than suggesting we should be able to post My Little Pony fanfic in GLB main - it's not really any more relevant to the topic at hand.

It makes sense for him to place limits that might cause problems for his business, yet cracking down further and further to the point of banning things even a little racy or in bad taste only furthers the impression that we're all stuck in some absurdly expensive middle school where getting out of line means a trip to the principal's office.

Why is it that every time I make a post that isn't denouncing Bort & GLB in general, you come up with the same "you can stop sucking their balls" joke? This is seriously like the 6th or 7th time.

Do you honestly think that I'm sitting here, seething at the oppression of the admins and lamenting my irrational need to please them? Because my friend William, from Ockham, would like to kick you in the nuts.

And you're missing my point. My point wasn't so much that Bort & the admins the right to determine what constitutes appropriate content, it was that because they obviously have the right their choice to exercise it shouldn't be that big a deal to people, because the people objecting can express virtually no articulable inconvenience it is causing them to endure.

No, I think you're a vapid dullard without anything meaningful to say, mostly because you never had anything meaningful to say before you became a moderator either. But since that appointment, or perhaps more accurately since you made Pallow's laughable list, you have gone out of your way to defend and praise the administration. It's obvious, it's rather silly, and it's completely pointless. Saying that Bort can do what he wants on his site adds nothing to the discussion. If you want to defend the policy, then come up with some reasoning whereby placing strict limits on avatars somehow brings in money. That being so far-fetched is why the rest of us roll our eyes at the continued nannification of this site. Being repeatedly told that you can't do this or that is annoying to customers, especially when they don't see a legitimate reason behind it. I had to get special admin permission to have a dot named "I'm in lesbians with you" when that's a pretty well known line from a movie and hardly offensive even if it wasn't.

Not sure there's any evidence that allowing people to have porno avatars somehow brings in money either.

They generally seem tactless and immature to me. I don't care either way, but it just seems shameful to be all up in arms about not being able to have an avatar of a topless chick riding a phallic object.

No one is advocating porno avatars, but I enjoy racy ones, presumably because I am quite immature. It's the "being told what to do without a good reason" that's annoying, not the absence of cheesecake. We already feel like we're under the microscope in terms of the things we say, so add that to dot names or avatars and it's not hard to understand why someone would be put off. There's an environment of excessive political correctness, which incidentally is why you will never have an official position with GLB again despite doing more than almost anyone to improve this game.

I'm not "going out of my way" to do anything. I've never posted anything that wasn't my honest opinion, and I've never posted anything just because I thought somebody else wanted to hear it (OK, excluding recruiting PMs, where I've been known to be somewhat more complimentary of players than perhaps they deserve). And you're still missing my point, because you completely ignored the last thing I said in my post and reiterated your point about how saying that Bort can do something adds nothing to the discussion.

Which, again, wasn't my point. My point was that, considering he can, it's ultimately not a significant issue, because enforcing stricter rules regarding appropriate content in this regard does NOT inhibit the userbase's enjoyment of the game in any substantial way. And the "nannification" argument is a bit of a non-starter - it's a complaint with no coherent argument behind it. Nobody in a position to determine these things listens to complaints in the abstract about not liking being told they're not allowed to do something. Well, that's how rules work. You may think the rule is arbitrary, but GLB isn't a government agency, and this rule doesn't actually inhibit your ability to enjoy the game in any meaningful way. Ergo, it shouldn't be that big a deal.

It not only obviously can, but it clearly has. Plenty of people have left GLB because of annoyance over being told that they can't do this or that, whether it be posts or something else. Honestly, you're just not equipped to handle this sort of argument. If you're going to suck up to the people who run this site then do it and suffer the consequences, but don't suck up and then try to pretend that you're doing it for any legitimate reason.

The userbase can't make up their mind if they want professionalism or tits and ass flying everywhere and a bloodbowl on the forums.

You'll still see people occasionally bitching about how GLB is too hostile of an environment and they can't stand how lax it is. Then you have other people bitching about how they can't have racy avatars and post borderline offensive crap. Slight inconsistencies within the moderation might have a small factor in that, but the biggest factor is that everyone has vastly different ideals of what the forums should be.

As far as I'm concerned it's one of the laxest forums I've ever seen, especially as an "official" forum of a company. Most will ban you for a week for any kind of negativity, then suspend you permanently the next time.

Yes, forums that exist for the sole purpose of being a forum and appealing to people that want to use that forum can be a lot more laid back than forums attached to an actual company...but even then, most of them are far more strict than GLB.
