But really, S8 was the downfall of everything.
The slam was widespread enough to blow the cat out of the bag for a large portion of users, resulting in immersion collapse. A similar effect happened in Diablo 3 for many people when they hit Inferno. Blatant problems with the game cause you to start looking at it mechanically instead of through rose colored glasses.
Once that barrier is shattered, you see all of the problems...and the forum turns to a bitchfest.
I agree with Tautology... this is a pretty good analysis. Doesn't explain everything, but it was an important moment in GLB history for sure.

The more complex the game got(tagging, custom slots, dpc, etc.), the more it seemed like doing a monotonous task, made coordinating more of a job instead of a game. Most of those changes were ones the community wanted and i suppose a natural progression so take that as u will.
Gotta agree that s8 was the turning point with the sim, the first one that was unwatchable, I would just look at the score instead of the spoiler free links (gotta love the ppl that found those in the old days). It seems like things that were community done, rankings, tourneys, survivor, etc. meant a lot more when they were run by the community instead of glb doing it themselves but idk how u really avoid that.
The thing that I think almost any s1 or 2 agent would say is that the first crop of dots meant more than any of the ones they've made since. Most probably remember big games their first one had and the teams they were on. You can't recreate that feeling unfortunately but building those dots was a lot more fun. You had to focus on performance in the present, not build for 6 seasons later and ppl were figuring shit out(or thought they were) all the time.

Once the World League was implemented and the days of AAA, AA tree was removed = less log in careds. Elitism will kill ANY internet game.

it's funny how the community wanted more, then when they got it, they all disappeared lol

when did they shorten the time to hit plateau? that was a really good thing. the other stuff hasnt mattered to me
i probably would care about coordinating if i could cheaply build all the players to avoid recruiting. even if it meant keeping the team and players in a separate group of leagues.

I don't think we understood the ramifications of it until it was too late.

The game is vastly better now than it has ever been. The problem is that no one gives a shit.

Everyone wants to be Columbus and discover new worlds. Well, everything that can be explored has been, therefore what's the point.

It's coming , no worries there. Lose the rest of the deadweight (Seymour,Kelly, Mcfadden, McClain, Brisiel, Palmer) by trade or cutting wherever the cap hit is the least to name a few. Those are just the first that come to mind. We'll have a draft and maybe find a few gems for down the line like Reggie did in GB. 2014 will be brighter.
