It's more better if people attempt to get along and just discuss things in a rational, productive manner.

Last thing I will say on this matter: Nice typing skills. I think you should try to take a break from contractions. They aren't working too well for you I see.

Edit: Back to regular discussion...

Try writing that shit on a cell phone and you'll have the occasional typo, too.

If I don't learn to let shit go...no, they are not.

Makntak. There has been a lot of good advice in this thread (and meaningless nonsense) so take some of what Warhawk said, yello1, CowboysAmerica, steelernutt68, bhall43, Time Trial, deez11010 and I said. Ignore the past 21/4 pages though.

Another thing you can do is start recruiting early, like the season before the teams first season.

This is probably the biggest thing. Getting a jump start on recruiting is a lot better than rushing on Day -1 to get players to join your team. Very sloppy and unprofessional imo.

if i had a player that received an offer from you or someone in a similar situation, here would be my mindset. some will sound mean, but its not meant to be personal.

1) new agent, wont know shit about building dots, let alone running a team.
solution: not much you can do about that other than keep playing and put in your time. try signing some well known GMs.

2) no trophies of any kind, wont know shit
solution: b4 owning a team, find teams willing to mentor you. there is very little intuitive about glb, so learning the glb-way is critical to success

3) more than 1/2 your roster is CPU going into week 3. you'll never fill a non rookie league these days this late into a season.
solution: start with a rookie team and start recruiting the season b4.

4) give the team a personality. there is a huge lack of role playing in glb. if many see a fun team, even if we dont have a player, some may offer to help mentor.

5) you have players but none on the team. if you don't have the faith to put your own players on your team, why should any one else?
solution: some positions are really hard to recruit these days, those are great spots for an owner to build. but building the hb and/or qb will make it seem that you will likely just be using the team to stat whore.

6) make sure that you read player profiles and marketplace ads. people are pretty serious about those comments. if they say that you must sign 3 other players, make sure that you get those offers out ASAP too. if the comment says not to send offers, dont.

Yeah, some great comments here. Thank you gentlemen, all (do any ladies play this game?).

I love it that some vets are happy to share their insights and this thread has been an enormous help. Got a sense of focus and direction that I lacked and some of the murk has been cleared from the very brown water. Aiming for crystal clear, mineral-rich, bottled brand water some time in the future

Another piece of advice for you Makntak............. Make some players for own team(preferably starting in Rookie), and when you do, maybe think about making 3 WRs and 2 or 3 CBs yourself.... and by all means, put your guys as the 3rd, 4th, 5th guys. At those positions, it's hard to keep that many players happy to where they will stay around... meanwhile, if you make yours starters and delegate theirs to the lower spots they will get the impression that you are all about yourself.

That's one thing that I usually try to do.... is to let others have the starting spots at most positions. Some don't like not seeing themselves listed in the starting line-up. Meanwhile, the back-ups(your players) will still get tons of play time and stats.

No sir, but there are some of the female gender here (I wouldn't call them "ladies" though)

many of the vets at this site are happy to, even if they don't admit to like being able to help teach what they have learned.

eww

PS:was just kidding with my first comment, all the females that frequent this site are the epitome of "ladies" , all of them both past and present. (RIP Mel)

Recruiting used to be something I enjoyed, and it was fun as hell signing up new agents to my teams every season. I kind of miss that, but now I cringe at the thought of having to fill more than 2 spots on any roster. I do enjoy signing with new owners/agents because they always have the most enthusiasm towards the game.

Let me get a little deep here. GLB is not a "step in and play like a champ" game. It's got a LOT of stuff to be learned and experienced. I've been here for a long time and I've never owned a team... yet. Why? Because owning a team here (in this game) means you're gonna be responsible for many others enjoyment of the game. Agents, coaches, co-owners, and yourself. (unless you're a one-man-show and do everything yourself.) And there's a TON of stuff to learn about owning a team, building dots, creating OAI's and DAI's and ST's and finances, and recruiting, and... *phew*. For now I build Dots and do occasional coaching gigs. I've managed to, over quite some time, make a few friends along the way. Many have taught me skills that I use today... and I'm STILL learning stuff. The people that play here are a diverse bunch... and not everyone gets along with everyone... but it's kinda like a dysfunctional family of sorts that has one common bond... football. And, like our love of the game, life here is a long time love affair... and (sorry GLB) a little expensive. I refuse to even consider what I've spent here so far... it would probably cost my what little sanity I have left. I just enjoy it while it lasts. And the friendships I have make it easier to stick around.
What I'm saying is, sit down with a bag of chips and some tea cuz if you wanna succeed here, then you need to be here for a while... not just pop in and win. That, most likely, isn't gonna happen... not without quality help from a few friends. So... go make some friends.

Thats a good point. To me unless you know all the GMs for years that you have chosen for your team, even with their help owning a team is more like a job than a game. You gotta log in multiple times a day and make sure your GMs are doing what they're supposed to (many will slack off) or if you dont have GMs, to do the scouting, game planning and AI yourself. Off season is the most time you'll spend on as an owner, but you still gotta be on a lot every day. Every aspect of it can be fun. I was almost more concerned with not ruining somebodies experience in the game more than it was about me having fun with the game. It did wear down on me. After 4 years of doing it, I had enough "work". Now I'm currently just cycling the flex trying to get the "fun" part of the game back.

It hasnt been all that long since I sold my team so I'm not ready to do any part of running a team yet. But I do miss writing an AI. Designing my own defensive plays that work with the players I have. Customizing my own playbook. Scouting opposing teams and entering the chess match of what I think they'll do for the game and what I need to to to counter or take advantage of that. Really the only thing I dont miss is the recruiting, lol. Gonna be a few seasons before I get the itch to do more than have a few dots.

One thing that both my gf and I did waaaaay back in the day, we both owned our own teams and filled our entire rosters with our own players. If you have the finances for it, I honeslty would suggest doing that as a first time owner. You dont have to worry about recruiting or anything. You can build your dots how you like and can custom build your dots to fit the kind of offense/defense you want to run. You can learn at your own pace and dont have to worry about going 0-16 and upsetting other people.

But that is very expensive. She wasnt into the game as much as I was and she quit like 3 years ago so she has like 100k flex sitting on her account still. Kinda sad to see that much money sitting there not being used. So only do that if you are willing to put up the money and the time to use it all.
