If Dadd himself doesn't, then good. However, the problem remains that other mods do.

Look at jdbolick. I'm willing to bet that in his case, he did what he's known for doing: put together a blistering TL;DR epic tirade with his unique trademarked blend of incredibly well-thought-out logical arguments mixed with trolly personal insults. It's the sort of thing he does all the time -- and the sort of thing he gets away with all the time, because a certain percentage of the mod staff finds him to be entertaining. But THIS time, a different mod comes along and gives him a forum ban -- for doing the exact same thing he does consequence-free in almost all of his other forum arguments.

I'll tell ya straight up right now, I don't like jdbolick at all. But I fully understand his frustration. If I robbed banks on a regular basis while the police simply watched me and did nothing, then I'd be frustrated too if I robbed yet another bank and then all of a sudden got arrested. If the police were letting me do it before, isn't it okay to keep doing it?

Well, the mods have been letting him do this for so long that when he suddenly gets punished for doing the same thing, he goes on a tirade about it in Suggestions. As LOL as that is, he's also absolutely right about the inconsistency of the forum moderation on GLB. His story is a great illustration of that inconsistency.

Okay then. But that wasn't made clear in your previous post.

And my concern is that too many moderators in here are starting with the question, "Do I like what this person just did?" and then going from there. If that's the first question a mod asks themselves, then they're already doing it wrong.

Yeah, I'm obtuse.

And the first thing I think is, "Oh crap, do I actually have to do something?"

I would smash his face into a car windshield, taken his mother Dorothybolick for a nice seafood dinner, and never called her again.

I have been over this is length with Catch. My idea was to make the Appeal system anonymous so the mods who accept or decline the appeals dont know who it is they are accepting or delcining so they dont let the posters posting history get in the way to whether they broke the rules this one time or not. I put in alot of effort into in and brought out alot of legal mumbo jumbo to try and prove my point... I made a good point. Needless to say so wasnt ammused by my "law and order" style appeal lol. But we have an understanding now and I get it and have been well behaved since. Goes with out saying catch won the agrument and i lost the appeal. On this very subject. people with a history of breaking the rules will be handled differently than people who have no history of breaking the rules.

Those aren't forums, those are columns with comments sections.

That may be true for PFT, but not for CBSSports

I'm not sure I'd say he has incredibly well-thought-out logical arguments. Generally his arguments completely ignore facts. Though you are correct about the personal insults.

He still hasn't apologized to me for telling me I was wrong in that thread when I really was correct.

Assuming these are in the forum rules, I would have banned LHF for his "Eat shit" comment in the last post of Page 1, and then I would've also banned jdbolick for his first post on Page 2 for his needless personal insults against LHF... one thing to disagree with a statement, quite another thing to flat-out tell someone they don't know anything about what they're talking about at all. And frankly, I think jdbolick started the personal idiocy with his post back on Page 1, which is one of his favorite ways to dismiss someone out-of-hand who he thinks he is completely intellectually superior to. It's obnoxious.

Quite frankly, quite a few people in that thread probably deserved cool-down bans for 1 or 2 days, considering some of the shit that was thrown at jdbolick in that thread. But it definitely all got started with jdbolick and LHF starting in on each other.

.....

Was anyone punished for any of their posts in that thread? I'd be curious to see who was punished and who was left alone.

I posted that thread, because it happened when I was first made a Mod so I was uncertain how to proceed.

afaik, no one was warned/banned/punished ... the thread was just simply locked for the reason stated.
