if you have just 1 center it isn't as big of a deal - just don't put him on special teams and you should do ok

then that player is lucky not to be playing for an idiot owner. any owner with half a brain knows that a well built G can play great at C, as the OOP is almost nil.
But he has to actively sell himself.
Maybe I am not making myself clear.
If he is not on the "Centers" shelf, but instead on the crowded dust covered dented Guard shelf, he is far less likely to be sent an offer to play a center position. So he and or the owners have to work to find each other, if they ever do.
But if he officially converts himself to Center - poof there he is on the shelf right where people are looking.

But some guards do not like being so used.
Its just awkward if its a position that is constantly under staffed to have to go through the process of finding OOPs for it. Not impossible but some other option to smooth it along might be nice.
Also other often short handed needs, like TE, are a little harder to fill.

I am not advocating putting a G as backup
I am saying put the one center at center on the depth chart and roll with it, and don't have a backup and don't put your center on special teams
