Yeah, but that can (and does!) already happen under the current system anyway... which is why demoting teams can petition Support to be put in a particular league, and Support does their best to meet those request. That wouldn't change under the new contracted system. Plus..

...your objection can still pop up under this system as well. Anchorage will end up in South, Canberra will end up in North, St. Louis will end up in East, Moscow will end up in the West... same problem, just different names. So your alternative doesn't fix anything.

Plus the appeal of this idea is that it preserves the identity of the current Pro leagues, for those people who still care about that sort of thing. We don't have leagues called North, South, East or West right now. Plus those names are kinda stale and boring anyway, and ridiculously unclear. Is New York City in North, or in East? Or West, for that matter, since they're West of the Prime Meridian. How about Cairo? Rome? Moscow?

I don't know whether New York City is in North, East or West, but I know for freakin' sure they're in North America, so they go in the North American Pro League, USA Conference.

As a G-Men Fan, I agree with this and I have a Berlin Shockwave Team and I want them in the Europe League!! It's not the same if Berlin takes over South America...This is not Risk!! The problem is the option for Teams to pick which Nat. Pro League they want to be in because some are weaker than others. You want Regionalism, Make the Team have to be from a City (No Network: The Legion's Wu Tang) crap and put them in the right League....When that League is filled up, You can't pick a Team from that Region!!! Otherwise...Take the Regionalism out of the equation!! If you want to be from USA, You have to Play in that Region!!

Owners can rename the teams, its not hard.

Ezra just moved his team from USAPL (where his team name was denver ect) to APL (where his team name is republic of benin) Its not that hard.

Also, if a team name doesn't correspond with the league who cares? I DC laos chaos (Laos is in Asia) but our team is in WEPL, no one really cares.

Also if teams want to name themselves after their network, let it be.

Then why worry about Regionalism with the League / Conference Names? Let's just name them Tom, Dick, and Harry if no one gives a shit?

Basically, I want it to stay as it currently is. The same 8 regions will be there, just as Conferences instead of as full Leagues. Those who give a damn about, say, playing in South America will still get to "play in South America." Those who don't care about it can play wherever.

No need to take it any further than that. Nobody right now forces a team named Barcelona to play in Western Europe, and I'm fine with that remaining the same post-contraction.

All I'm proposing is using the current League names as the new Conference names. Nothing more, nothing less. Any arguments about whether or not teams should be forced to give their teams region-appropriate names or be forced to play in region-appropriate leagues is entirely missing the point of this suggestion.

People who care about regional identity will be happy. People who couldn't care less about regional identity really shouldn't have much to argue against, because they couldn't care less about regional identity anyway and would happily play in leagues named Dweezil, Diva, Ahmet and Moon Unit.

(Come to think of it, that should be its own Suggestion.)

i really, really like the idea to keep it named similar to how it is now. pro leagues turn into the conferences.

Think it would be possible to pick a preferred region? so have two options when you click preferred league. League and Conference.

A lot of people actually care and like the way it is now. If i owned a team (in pro that is) then i would definitely be naming my team after the region we are in or request the region that goes along with our team name.

There are always a few that don't care but many do so keeping it similar to how it is now would be great
