Have you tried de-linking your cc from your Paypal account or just closing your account altogether? You mentioned that you've "reached [your] spending limit of $5000." Doesn't that mean that you can't use Paypal anymore anyway, since you're only willing to give the one funding source and they're not willing to take it?

I just choose not to every time and have no issues buying flex. There's really no need to use PayPal as you can use Credit, Debit, or Pre-Paid without ever having to sign with PayPal.

There's the rub.

GLB uses PayPal and "the PayPal gateway." So, if you are a delinquent troublemaker like me, who only has one credit card and has had said credit card for the last 10 - 15 years, and said credit card is in the PayPal data base, I still get rejected even if I say I'll set up my account later.

To me there is a bit of "sleaze" in asking for your bank account. Like another poster mentioned, Amazon (which I use) never asks for a bank account.

If people are happy with PayPal, fine. I'm happy for you. However, unless there is an alternative payment, I'll pick up flex point as players are retired, but eventually I'll be done.

I believe the main problem is that since my credit card is linked to my account which hasn't been verified, the credit card is ban-hammered until I give the PayPal gods more information that they have no business in having.

Like I said, if anyone wants to do business with them, have at it. Amazon doesn't do this. I liked the convenience of PayPal; it just isn't worth giving them information that they don't need, or could be susceptible to hacking.

Good thread, obtw. Don't mean to upset the apple cart, but I hope you see my point (and I'm not proselytizing...I'm just right and if anyone disagrees with me they're wrong)

"who only has one credit card and has had said credit card for the last 10 - 15 years"

I don't want to contribute exceedingly to the national debt.

It isn't hard to open an additional checking account and keep your main one isolated from Paypal if you don't trust them.

Paypal is owned by eBay, so of course Amazon isn't going to use them.

In my opinion, and thats all this is, is that paypal is trying to limit fraud by requiring a confirmed bank account.

PP , one time denied me a refund when a vendor did not ship their product ..... so I have never renewed my acct with them .....

..... but with GLB , they always ask if I want to go through PP , and I always decline , yet at the end of the transaction it says it's been processed through PP ....

and last time (one week ago ) I bought FP's , they denied my CC , so I just used another one ...

There is always a way to hack an account. Why add to the target?

I doubt if PayPal can provide encryption security enablers better than any of the following:

Global Payments: Under 1.5 million account numbers hacked

Global Payments Inc. hinted on Sunday night that about 1.5 million consumers were impacted by the massive credit card hack that first came to light on Friday -- fewer than the 10 million that was initially reported.

Payment processors -- "middle men" that handle transactions between retailers and banks -- have long been a target of identity thieves because of the enormous amounts of data they control. In 2008, Princeton, N.J.,-based Heartland Systems was hacked, exposing tens of millions of credit card account numbers to theft.

Citi says 360,000 accounts hacked in May cyber attack

(Reuters) - Citigroup Inc said a cyber attack in May affected almost twice as many accounts as the bank's figures had initially suggested, as major U.S. lenders come under growing pressure from lawmakers to improve account security.

A total of 360,083 North American Citigroup credit card accounts were affected by the breach, the third-largest U.S. bank by assets said in a statement released late on Wednesday.

Of those affected, some 217,657 customers were reissued with new cards along with a notification letter, while the remaining accounts were either inactive or had already received new cards earlier, the bank added

Should Paypal then be worried about someone hacking your bank? I mean...they're taking a chance letting people like you hook up to them.

Go talk to your bank and set up a small account for Paypal purchases. You can link Paypal to it, instead of your normal bank account.

I think he means in the sense of "juvenile delinquent" not "delinquent in payment".

Nonsense.

PayPal should be worried about someone hacking into PayPal and getting my and your bank account #. They have a duty of care to protect this information, and if I recall correctly, I never see any disclaimer by PayPal saying they are not responsible for compromised account numbers due to their negligence. I could be wrong; they may say their insured for $2500,000 per account, but I'm not sure.

Regardless, Setting up another account is easy, however it is the principle of the matter. Amazon provides a paying service, Ticketbastard does the same, with credit card only, without requesting a bank account.

All I want is an alternative payment plan.
