Makes a hell of a lot more sense than penalizing the team that has been winning...
As for morale not allowing comebacks I gotta call shenanigans.
http://goallineblitz.com/game/game.pl?game_id=1967506 lolminors but I am linking it precisely because comeback VAs were not in place and because the team that came back had morale in the 60s.
Honestly even though I own that team I was pretty shocked to see the team comeback. Teams can still crawl out of a 30+ point deficit even when they are in a huge morale funk without overpowered VA stacks. ken1 is all for realism (and will happily make up stats to show how "realistic" it is) when it involves offenses scoring more points but doesn't give a fig about realism when it means that offenses that have been shut down can't all of a sudden become otherworldly in the 4th quarter.
In the history of the NFL there has only been one 30+ point comeback (Buffalo vs Houston in 93). http://www.profootballhof.com/history/stats/comebacks.aspx
In the NFL (and this data is mostly to debunk ken1's garbage made up stats before he has a chance to make them up, I don't think GLB should ever model itself purely on the NFL) teams that are down 7 or more points to start the 4th quarter comeback less than 10% of the time.
http://www.advancednflstats.com/2008/08/win-probability.html (there are outliers to this, the second week of December in 2011 for instance saw the greatest amount of comebacks in NFL history with 5 comebacks of 12 or more points, but for the most part the 10% is solid).
In GLB that is hardly the case due to the comeback stacks. In fact a couple of WL teams I am a part of made VA choices purely to combat those stacks even if it meant diminished performance in the 1st quarter. When you have teams actively choosing to pick certain VAs to stop something that only happens about 10% of the time in RL something is off and this is after those VAs were heavily nerfed. I understand if people don't want to see a counter for every VA and even agree with that but adding penalties to VAs that already exist should be a viable way to make it so that teams have to make tough choices when they want to model themselves after the Tebow Broncos and those should come in the form of decreased performance during the rest of the game.
