Great idea, but I do think that it would have to be carefully controlled and organized into groups such as FB-TE/HB, TE-FB/WR, HB-FB/WR, WR-HB/TE, DE-DT/LB, LB-S/DE. But I don't see the OOP penalty being completely removed, due to flex issues.

why the groups??
who cares if they put a DE at TE or something?

I know I'm in the minority here. But I think a few new VA's and SA's would be a good spark to a game that's getting dull. HB's are only spin/juke or power through with not much variation at the top levels. But like I said, many would disagree.

Actually, the VA itself would not have to be organized into groups. Introduce the VA and increase the penalty to play a FB at HB or a TE at WR from 5% to 20%. If you do that then the agents who are using the exploit of employing TEs as blocking WRs for their running teams will feel the pain and the VA will become worthwhile.

Because people would build olineman everything for 100 flexies.
Not to say that would be smart or anything. But the groups are merely flex related. Such as 200 flex TE's as WR's.

Yeah I guess so. But even a Stop OL would be absolutely terrible on defense.
Its a valid point I suppose.
So instead of groups simply make it grouped only by cost.

Just FYI Angry, I suggested this a couple years ago, and response from Catch/Bort was NGTH because of the difference between flex costs of positions. I've always liked the idea though.

pretty much sums up why it is NGTH

+1 to the OP, I suggested this awhile back in saintedix's thread. I didn't know he ever got a response from the admins. Anyway here's what I had to say:

Having it work differently depending on position makes sense, but you could perhaps do it without specifying position at all. Just chop off 1% from the OOPP for each point in the VA.
Example: Let's say you have a FS. I don't know the exact numbers but pretend it's a 5% OOPP to play SS, 10% OOPP to play CB, 25% OOPP to play OLB, 40% OOPP to play MLB, 50% OOPP to play DE, and 75% OOPP to play DT.
So now let's say you:
Put 4 points in the SS Specialist VA. 5% - 4% = 1%, so you now have a 1% OOPP to play SS. (Shouldn't take 15 points to learn the other safety spot.)
Put 4 points in the CB Specialist VA. 10% - 4% = 6%, so you now have a 6% OOPP to play CB.
Put 15 points in the OLB Specialist VA. 25% - 15% = 10%, so you now have a 10% OOPP to play OLB.
Put 15 points in the DT Specialist VA. 75% - 15% = 60%, so you still are clueless at DT with a 60% OOPP.
The more I think about this, the more I like it. Honestly this is truly what a veteran ability should be imo. Some random bonus to speed when the ball in the air is not a veteran ability. Being able to do something unique because you work on it and because you are smart enough to learn more of the offense or defense, that is a veteran ability. That is what the OP's idea is about.
Think of an H-back like Chris Cooley, or someone like Mike Vrabel who plays LB and TE. They can do it because they practice it. It's something they've worked on, at the expense of other things. That's a veteran ability imo.

I wouldn't. Moar VAs across the board I say.
And more VA points to spend on them, though not proportionately more.

I dont get it. People are actually going to waste 15 VA's to play a position where another dot is using 15 extra VA's? XD
I see it more as a pre-season swap when stuck for a hard to get guy. Or trying to squeeze in extra players at another position so you try to get away with one less O lineman or something like that.
