The karma system obviously needs some improvement, but I don't think the solution is to get rid of it entirely. Have an IP check like you said, and have an automated alert for mods if there are a lot of votes on one thread in a short period of time.

edited the OP for clarity, it's 1 vote per IP

not that the game would only allow 1 IP to vote

unless jdub wanted it that way to be supreme leader of the interwebs

So since dubj gets his thread locked and the people unlocked a thread he thinks is a shit thread(regardless of him posting once if not twice per page) he gets but hurt a mod (who probably posts in his glb lounge pf) comes to make sure hes feeling ok. And his thread can get unlocked.

Couldn't do that either. What about people who use the same computer to play this game? One of them wouldn't get a vote. Also not fair.

Its not exactly a world ending scenario if one person of a multi-account household can't vote to lock threads. I say give the household vote to the person who might need the tiny power trip that day.

no I gave him cart Blanche to PM me and let me investigate it. If I find out that a thread randomly received a ton of suspicious down / up votes I can reset the karma.

Being in FFA as often as I am....

Hardly ever will a thread get 10 votes in either direction... let alone 20 to 30 total.
