The reason you run vs pass is a higher percentage for a positive play, or to control the clock vs a high scoring offense. When you pass, there are 5 ways you can get a negative play (fumble, incompletion, sack, complete for loss, interception). When you run, there are only 2 ways for a negative play (fumble, tackle for loss). It's all about how much you want to risk.

???????????? lacking a running game??? Laurence Maroney??? Kevin Faulk??? are you serious??? Laurence Maroney has THE best stiff arm in the game of football. He is probably THE strongest runningback in football. Kevin Faulk has yet to not have a clutch play for the Patriots. Every time he gets the ball he gets the first down. Don't give me that crap that the patriots have no running game, it was a big reason the passing game worked so well.

he got the stiff arm from madden he does not

I watched every single Pats game last year, not even joking. I watched every single playoff game last year. Again, not joking. I watched the superbowl last year, well duh... When you watch him run every single time, you see his stiff arm. His stiff arm is unbelievable. He knows what he is doing, he's got the mechanics down to it, because there is a certain way to do it. Gosh... i hate to say it that way because i know general or friskymonkey is gonna make it into something its not... But Lo Mo has a great stiff arm in real life. I have never even looked at him on Madden. I have just seen some awesome plays in real life where he has a bunch of good stiff arms.

Nothing pleases me more in life than knowing that I will NEVER be a Boston fan.... Seriously. And the Patriots? They just make it SO easy. They send their OC to Notre Dame, so as a Michigan fan, I can even hate the Patriots on Saturday too... Awesome. Glad they taught Weiss how to choke like a bitch before he left.

You have to have power backs to have a successful running game?

My bet is that when the new O and D upgrades come out, it will open up the running game more.

D will have the ability to blitz individual players at a certain % -- & I think that most D coordinators are going to go bat poop crazy with all the blitzing options and QB will be seeing alot more time on the turf and will make high % passing teams run more to avoid so many 3 & outs.

I also think that the individual blitzing schemes will create a situation where there will be more rushing stops for loss BUT it will also open up space for bigger runs. Couple that with O coordinators having more control and hopefully being able to exploit weaker players or scouted schemes.

I think the reason this happens is because most people biult elusive backs. And elusive backs are only good running on the outside. since not many people's WRs have 30 blocking and 30 Strength, its not very easy to run on the outside. Try putting TEs as your starting WRs. You may be as good at passing, but running may come easier.

I think what Rainey is saying is that our guys lean towards elusive and we're not exactly struggling. Granted we also probably have the best line in the league, but I digress.

Your dominant d allows you to run... the running game still isnt what it was last season.

Maroney has the power he just doesn't have the confidence. When he is on, he is on. I have seen him dominate, and sometimes fail. If he can keep consistent he will be good. I mean, its not like he's bad. 4.6 yds per att is not bad at all, LT only gets 4.7. Maroney just needs to be more consistent.

sorry for bringing this back up....but seriously he has the power? but he doesnt have the confidence? then he cant play in the nfl. bench him. I have yet to see him take over a game against a worthy opponent. He's not trash he just aight nothing compared to faulk's third down abilities and sammie morris pounding it.
