If you read between the lines, this is the apology. I suggest you take it to your "college professor" and ask for insite on apologies.

I still don't care about your opinion.

A culture is perfectly capable of being built within ones family core values, I've previously discussed the upbringing that lead me to understand, and still understand that as a perfectly acceptable form of condolence. I will never apologize for my culture and your misunderstanding of it.

It is very clear and concise message portrayed in that poem whether you agree with its use or not.

"May medicine make your way."

Definition of CULTURE

b : the customary beliefs, social forms, and material traits of a racial, religious, or social group; also : the characteristic features of everyday existence (as diversions or a way of life} shared by people in a place or time <popular culture> <southern culture>

c : the set of shared attitudes, values, goals, and practices that characterizes an institution or organization <a corporate culture focused on the bottom line>

d : the set of values, conventions, or social practices associated with a particular field, activity, or societal characteristic <studying the effect of computers on print culture> <changing the culture of materialism will take time

-------------------
I took out the ones that obviously didn't fit.

C doesn't really fit what you want b/c you're not really talking about an institution or organization.

D doesn't really work either.

That only leaves B. So I'm curious as to which racial, religious, or social groups believe such behavior is "customary."

The social group of my 200 or so external and internal family members, and yes I do have that many family members that I know on a close personal level, not including many of their and my own close friends.... are my culture.

He's an Atheist. He says that people should be "understanding" of his cultural beliefs (Atheism) and not be so insensitive (he ranted about this quite a bit on LE's old site). Of course, he holds himself to a different standard, as he feels no need to be sensitive to other "cultural" beliefs. For example... 'Prayers are for pansies".

So, bottom line is he believes we should not be offended by his post because he is an Atheist. The fact that he basically insulted everyone that is not Atheist (particularly those who were offering their prayers), is of course irrelevant. After all, he is the victim here.

Of course, that is exactly what I said.

God isn't real.

These are my beliefs, you believe that I'm going to Hell and am a bad person, but I don't sit here and cry about it do I?

Prayers are for pansies...

Hopes are for hippies...

This was not intended as a insult to anyone, I apologized for how you could have misinterpreted the meaning, which is only that even if you pray and hope... it will be medicine which makes someone better.

See, here's the issue man. Your apology was not an apology. You are essentially apologizing for me. Insinuating that I was the one who did something wrong (misinterpreted the meaning). People get irritated with you because you set yourself up pedestal and feel free to do and say whatever you want. Then, when someone takes exception to one of your comments, you try to spin it to where they are the "bad guy". Nobody cares that you're an Atheist. The issue is that regardless of your religion (or lack thereof), you should be considerate of other peoples beliefs and/or feelings if you expect the same in return. To say (or quote) "Prayers are for pansies" in a thread where the bulk of the posts are offering their prayers, is extremely inconsiderate and insensitive. If you had said "I am an Atheist, so I can't offer you my prayers, but am confident medicine will get you through it." or simply "may medicine make your way." we wouldn't be having this discussion now.

It's not about religion or culture. It's about basic human decency bud.

Yeah, I'm done with it to. I was trying to reason with you and think I was very diplomatic in my choice of words. You talk about being a "decent guy", but when someone doesn't agree with you, or has the audacity to point out your hypocrisy, you shut down and say something like this.

It's completely clear to all of us (a bit of an assumption) that your only goal in the majority of your posts is to stir up shit and be controversial. Well, more power to you I guess, but I for one won't be making any further attempts to be civil with you.
