I wish the team stats page showed what your GAVE UP opposed to only what you gained on Special teams.

I created a Special Teams Ranking for Silver 5 to track how well I was doing relative to the other ST coordinators (I'm the Gashlycrumb Tinies STC); it was easy enough to modify it to run for Gold (where I'm the Hobbittown Hairy Feet STC), and it has defensive ST stats.
I couldn't figure out how to post a table to these forums, so I put it up on shorttext.com:
http://shorttext.com/8xgw6e3e5
There are two sections (Offense (when the team received the ball) and Defense), and each section is broken down into Kick Returns and Punts, and each of those is broken down into the # of plays, the average yards per play, and the percentage of plays that resulted in a TD.
I ranked all 32 teams by Average Yards and TD percentage in each of the four sub sections (the rank is immediately to the right of the stat), and the Total Rank on the far right is based on the average of those 8 sub-ranks. Ties are resolved using total returns (ie, it's better if you allowed 0 out of 10 defensive PR TDs than if you allowed 0 out of 5, and conversely, it's better to average 40 yards per offensive KR over 100 returns than over 10).
I left off Kick Distance and Punt Distance primarily because I couldn't figure out how to get Kick Distance from the game page short of parsing the play by play, and secondarily because they don't interest me as much as these 8 stats.

You know, it's not that surprising that Tedd's and even The Agency are getting scored on like prom dates on kick coverage, though it is a little shocking exactly how much (Tedd's is giving up almost 1 TD out of every 4 kickoffs!). But it is surprising that a team as dominant as FG is giving up 8% of their kickoffs.
And the best coverage team (by yardage) in all of pee wee gives up an average of 24 yards per kickoff.

I don't see what all the fuss is about. My team has done the following in league:
SCORED: 3 KR TD's, 7 PR TD's
GIVEN UP: 1 KR TD, 1 PR TD
Seems to be working just fine
On a serious note though.. I have created at least 5 special team specific players every season for about 4-5 seasons now. I'd like to think I know what I'm doing and build dots that I feel are going to give me an advantage. However it is also important to take the following into consideration. The 7 PR TD's were scored in 3 games. All three of these games MMD scored over 50 pts and can really be chalked up to superior builds in my opinion.
Of the 3 KR TD's
Only one of these came in a loss and it was our only score in the game. Both teams scored a special teams TD that game.
On the KR TD we gave up the team had NINE kickoff returns in this game and happened to score 1 time. It's bound to happen.
The thing that does bother me is the average field position. I feel as though teams are starting around the 50 yard line on average and that in itself is ridiculous. I think most teams special teams tacklers on kickoffs are the kicker himself which again is ridiculous. What needs to be adjusted is the ability to break into the center gap more frequently. What would also be cool is if Bort somehow implemented the ability to adjust the percentage of where you kick and return. Support this idea here: http://goallineblitz.com/game/forum_thread.pl?thread_id=3986101&page=last#35618821 -- naturally this came to me while writing this response.

That's what bothers me the most. Watching the ST stand there and wait for the returner.

We give up so many more returns than we score. We have given up so many kickoff returns and we haven't scored a single one. Also, we have STOPs.

But your team is unboosted as well... there's not much you can do to win that fight when playing from behind. You'll be a beast once you are fully boosted.

That's true actually, but we had the same problem when we were playing against unboosted teams.

I have some guesses as to why off first glance but don't want to call out your builds on an open forum.
