Well, making pro these days just takes having a decently leveled roster. Don't need to be good at coordinating or dotbuilding these days to make pro. To be really successful like having a prayer to win that's a different story

This is what I would like to see.

OPL was 10 times tougher back in Season 10 than USAPL is now. My math might be a bit off, but my point is clear. Pro leagues (even the premier one in the eyes of most) have been hit hard by the addition of the WL and that has funneled down all the way to AA (which is an absolute abomination).

same here...longer plateau would make this game much better.

Clear but not accurate. Perhaps top to bottom but not at the top.

OPL used to be really, really fun. In that sense it was probably significantly more than ten times better than USAPL (ever). e: Also, it was tougher, I think. Though none of the teams (WSI excepted) were elite GLB-wide, there were very few absolute pushover games for quite a while. You could say it was a Meat Grinder.
I think that GLB's problem is its insanely high barrier to entry. If you are a new agent making their first player, you have two options:
1) spend the first 5 seasons of your player's career being bored out of your skull, because you're slowbuilding, in the hopes that you'll find a good team and get to play actual competitive dot-ball for two or three seasons
2) have fun immediately by not slow-building, but your player will never compete seriously at a high level
I suppose you could be a coordinator or something instead? Well, then, good luck a) finding a legitimate team that will let you do it, b) having that team not gut in a season or less, and c) actually figuring out GLB well enough to do well. Try not to spend more time on here than a full-time job.
Well, then, what if you just buy a team? Well, have fun paying extra money just so that you can spend your time sucking up to idiots on the internet, hoping to actually fill the roster. Chances are you'll have to try to join one of the cliques of forums superstars, because you're not going to get anywhere without some dude who could build a whole league out of the teams he GMs on your team page (you may have to become this dude). Don't make too many plans, because chances are that the game will change radically in 2.5 seasons and invalidate them.
Look at this fukken effortpost. Ugh.

Thats not entirely true. WSI was the only team to be considered elite for an extended period of time. Teams like Mean Machine, Brisbane Heat, Tonga Ikale Tahi, Banzai Pipeline Nites, So Cal, Mata Utu Voodoo (some would argue Cascade Cajun Crushers, Osaka Buckeyes, Melbourne Thorny Devils, Orlando Prime Timers as well as some others I may be forgetting) reached elite level at some point where they could hang with the best teams in GLB.
Zeta was tough... virtually impossible to run the table. Had WSI played in Zeta I really think they would have been upset a couple times during their run.
The reason OPL never got any love was because everyone checked their egos at the door (except Osaka). Like Mornacale said it was a very fun league that was void of divas.

I believe that the top teams in OPL back then were just as good if not better than the top teams in USAPL now. That includes all the teams beenlurken mentioned above. In Zeta specifically, there were multiple teams that were considered elite during the same time period: Banzai, BDC, MUV, and Osaka specifically. At the very least they were comparable to teams like the Hounds, Mist, ATKM, and MBA today.

nautilus was always a class act for WSI. Steinrat is today for them as well but a vastly different team obviously

usapl was really tough until like 4seasons ago. Teams missing the playoffs were good enough to potentially get a top 4 spot in another region. All the leagues are lame at this point. Just so many teams gutting/declining/going slowbuild.
OPL still wasn't that good back then. Anytime we had tourneys they'd get waxed and the first 2season of WL they were awful. They were good compared to other OPL teams but wasn't really saying that much. Until like season 12 USAPL was by far the best league with CPL and SAPL by far being tied for the 2nd best league. The rest of the regions didn't really matter. It was balanced out a lot by decline of season 1-2 guys and WL meaning that other Pro leagues were just as meaningful (in terms of advancing). Now i think usapl still probably has the best group of top 6 teams but it's not that big a deal.
It's hard to ignore the tourney/scrim and other data that was available back then. Not to mention that it was obvious that usapl/cpl/sapl had the best teams considering that's where most the season 1/2 players were.

SAPL was overrated back then. OPL consistently beat them in regional challenges. I have no argument about USAPL and CPL being ahead of the game back then (or even now). I still do not believe any team currently in USAPL would simply run away with the league if they were in the old OPL. I am saying this as the owner of one of the best OPL teams back then and as the HC of one of the top USAPL teams now.

Valid points. Even today, "Fear The Invasion" would not be the favorite in USPL, but a legit contender for sure!

) so as not to water down the point I was trying to make. That said they, and teams like Vanuatu Kava Sharks, Tasmania Tigers, Sth Queensland Crushers, Cook Island Convicts (I am sure I am forgetting more), were huge reasons why Zeta was the Meat Grinder of OPL.
