I agree. If you want to see a copper team win a tourney championship, go to the Copper tournament.
I don't WANT any one team in particular to win.
I just want to give a fair shake to those other guys. Perhaps I could just offer up an official prize for the Copper and Silver Tourneys, and reduce the field for the official tourney to 64 with the World Cup Style.
How's that sound?

I also don't like the forced scheduling that the Official tourney does, as it never takes into account number of games played between 2 teams.
Fair enough, but before I got the forced scrim option we ran into teams scheduling their matches late, or me having to PM them to remind them to schedule. You may be very crisp in your scheduling, but I'm sure you understand that when dealing with 128 teams, there's a 0% chance that you can expect every single game will be scheduled on time during the course of the tourney.
However, I can look into the scheduling of early on odd days and late on even days. You may need to remind me next season though. That would help.
Remember guys, I'm just kicking around ideas here. Keep posting feedback and we'll work to come up with something that makes the most possible people happy.
I like your idea of making an 'official' copper & silver tournament, along with the WC-style 'Ultimate tourney'. That gives every team a legitimate shot at winning an official tournament.
I think if there is an official copper & silver tourneys, then any gold team that wants in the WC-style tourney should definitely get preference (b/c it's their only option). Perhaps after that, go with previous year's records amongst silver teams to fill out the rest of the 64 (I'd suggest now allowing brand new copper teams to enter, give them another reason to re-up their ownership).
With just 64 teams, it would be easy to seed as well:
*First, distribute the gold teams who were in gold the year before into the 8 pools.
*Second, distribute the teams who were in silver the year before based upon record (you might as well just put the new gold teams into this category, b/c they'll be at the top of this list anyway) who had at least 10 wins.
*Third, distribute the copper champs.
*Fourth, distribute the 8 & 9 win silver teams.
*Fifth, copper runner-ups.
By that point you should have 64 teams. If you need help ranking the list (b/c you'll have to check each team's previous year record), I would volunteer, as I'm sure several others would as well.
