Actually, the original Chocolate City was Washington, DC. It was named that by the funk group Parliament, which was pretty much George "P-Funk" Clinton and Bootsy Collins and a few no names. New Orleans gained that name after hurricane Katrina when Mayor Ray Nagin said the New Orleans would once again be a "chocolate city". He was referring to the black community returning after rebuilding. So there really is no other way to look at it. It was a nickname based on color, given by it's own citizens of color. Whether or not that is racist is up for debate.

Ah, well thanks for the info. That mayor Nagin lost his mind during that time so that makes perfect sense. Even still I don't think its a good idea for a team name. I am not saying they should have to change it at all though, rather bad taste.

There is a Possum Trot in Western Kentucky.

I still can't find New Jersey. Whoever made that up must have a sick mind.

And close to where I grew up (Middlesboro, KY.) there's a community called Stinking Creek... what this has to do with anything in this conversation is beyond me

Yeah well near where I am in NC there are cities named Big Lick and Erect and Frog Lick. Felt very much like a redneck typing those, LOL.

I am a redneck and I worked in Middlesboro, KY for a year and a half. I am very well acquainted with Stinking Creek. Around Hazard, KY there is a community call TaterHole Knob.

After mayor said it a lot of people found it offensive, now it's become such a joke in the area that people chuckle about it. I'm sure some guys on the Trippers know what I'm talking about. I can see how people not from here can find it in bad taste though so I'll see if I can get it changed to something else so not to offend anyone who may not really understand. Just when we started in this league we had 2 teams from NO so I thought I'd change mine to differ a little.

And the Trippers are our rivals. To add to it Trippers, for the locals, you're Voodoo, we're Saints. You stink like the air in Westwego. Boudreaux and Thibodeaux are the smartest ones in your family. Your crawfish boils are bland and suck.

And I'll this other "creek" community to where I grew up in, lol...

Yellow Creek

This always caught me hilarious, as I when I was a kid I always kept thinking " is it yellow 'cuz their plumbing runs into the creek (or crick as they would say)"... the good 'ol days as a kid in the mountains. I miss those days sometimes.
