@Kramer, just put this together for my game review, maybe it helps you understand why I was so upset with the engine. Imagine we are driving towards the end of the half, down by 14. Both Lumberjack TDs came after turnovers in our own half. We are inside their 20, with 32 seconds to go. We get off one pass play, then time runs out:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=4904013One pass play in 32 seconds? No FG attempt? That is just ridiculous, sorry. Given the distance and looking at Dusts track record let's assume this is a made FG, hence we are down 11 at half time.
We drive towards their end zone, then comes this:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=4904519Now down 11 (or even 14 for that matter, as it was in the real game) at the start of the 4th, why would you go for it? Kick the gimme FG, you are down 8. Oh well. We hold them to a three and out, drive again, getting stopped at their 5.5 on 3rd down. Of course we are down 14, not 8, so we go for it. Down 8? You go for the FG, after all there are still 10 minutes to go, and the Lumberjacks have managed to put together only 1 (!) long drive against us at that point (and for the rest as well). But of course we are down 14, not 8, so have to go for it, turnover on downs. But it gets better. We hold them to a three and out again. We drive again, get stopped at their 27, leading to this
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=4904722 Ok, that would not have been a an easy FG, but under 50 yards, and Dust certainly is a kicker that can make those. And suddenly we'd have a very interesting remaining 6 minutes.
Of course you have to account for worse field position had a FG been converted at some point, and for a FG possibly being missed, of course all this is hypothetical, but it all hinges on that "forgotten" FG at the end of half one.
Mind you, I am not saying we would have won if not for that, the Lumberjacks were the better team and won deservedly, but that one decision prevented a far more interesting and closer game than it turned out to be in the end. And that does not have anything to do with it being "realistic", any Pop Warner coach misplaying the end of the half in that way would probably fired by his players parents for that.
