I'm glad Hamilton didn't participate. We need him for the stretch run and not getting hurt in the Derby. He's looked great since coming off the DL

The NL trotted out the beef, no question with all 4 of the first basement being in the contest. It would have been fun to see Hamilton in it, no question, but just coming off the DL, I don't blame him for taking a pass. Big Pappi would have been a blast to see as well, but he has just sucked bad this season. Cruz was impressive and Texas looks like they have a keeper there. 4th deck jack? Wow.

Lot of debate over Albert being in it from the standpoint that you don't want to see him get hurt or basically the Cardinals season is done and I think that is more important than the derby.

To say he IS the Cardinals this year wouldn't be a stretch. Without him, we're probably fighting with the Pirates and Reds in the NL Central cellar.

Getting hurt in the homerun derby or getting hurt taking cuts in the pregame? I mean come on...i think you guys make this out a little more than it really is...its still baseball we are talking about.

If the AL was going to suck that bad...they may as well have invited Griffey Jr. just for the kicks of watching him still drop some bombs with the young boys. That is such a pure homerun swing...he probably could have came close to winning it last night.

The AL should've sent Kendry Morales tbh

I bet nobody knows who that is, but he is awesome.

I picked Pujols to win. I actually picked Inge as my 2nd choice, figured I would go out on a limb since he hit all his homers this year on 250 at bats, so I sure feel dumb now going against my natural instincts to pick the big guys. I picked Fielder as my 4th choice, blah!

The local worry about Albert in the home run derby is his elbow and doing so many max effort swings in such a short period of time. The elbow caused him issues off and on last year and major reconstructive surgery will be required to fix it totally. (He has had elbow issues for a couple of seasons now). He had minor elbow surgery in the off season to try to get around some of the pain issues he had been having and obviously it helped a lot.

It might be baseball, but go to a cage some time and take 30-40 cuts swinging as hard as you can and see how you feel. Watching those guys last night, it was clear a couple of them just ran out of gas. Don't like baseball/softball, go to a driving range and pulling out a driver and try cranking a good sized bucket of balls trying to hit the ball as far as you can.

i play golf/baseball/softball daily...i know damn well what it takes to make 30-40 cuts in an outing...the fact is that he would likely do the same thing if it were a league game day earlier before the game. Obviously putting a little more charge into it, but the difference isnt crazy...

that being said...didnt know about the elbow part...so i can see some cause for some concern.

Griffey had the greatest swing...they were showing a re-reun of the 96 derby last week. His swing was so effortless and the ball just flew of the bat. If Griffey didn't have that stretch of like 6 years of injuries, he would be the HR King and hands down the greatest player of all-time.
