I know if I hammered the Sailor Jerry for a couple hours, then killed someone in my truck, it'd be about 5-10 years until I played dotball again.

Dont worry, 5-10 years is roughly 200-400 days GLB time.

It isn't even about Stallworth being guilty or not. It's the joke of a justice system. A normal person would have been charged with something like Reckless Homicide while he gets a simple DUI Manslaughter just for having money and being in the NFL.

This is the important part imo

This, plus the family specifically asked the DA to not drag out the proceedings (possibly related to #1, or having some personal reason to stay out of the spotlight, or both). The article mentions the desire for immediate closure, as well as Stallworth's honesty and cooperation following the event, as the driving reasons for the relatively light sentence.

It's bad politics for the DA to drag the victim's family through a protracted legal battle after they say they just want to be out of the spotlight.

edit: typing... what's new?

Yeah we'll see how it plays out.

I've thought for a while that pro teams should have a driving service for their players. I can understand that millionaires don't want to take a taxi, but a team or union sponsored service would work. Seems like there's a player or two getting a DUI every season in Seattle, even without the Sonics.

Stallworth is giving the family over $100 million?

Not to justify Stallworth, because he's a p.o.s. - but wasn't the guy he hit illegally crossing the street where he got nailed at? I know he wasn't in a crosswalk, and wherever he was running across had a 40mph limit posted (Stallworth was doing 50)...

So yea, while I can't believe Stallworth got off with 30 days, if this dumbfuck who got hit was running across the street oblivious to the fact there was traffic around in the middle of a city... I don't have a lot of sympathy for the victim either. Look both ways before crossing the street and catch the next bus mother fucker.

Also it's not like a .12 is shitfaced hammered... remember, .1 was the federal limit for a long time until MADD got some publicity. I'd be interested to have breathalyzers installed at more bars so people could see how easy it is to get over .08.

I was going to post pretty much exactly this, but Drago beat me to it. It sounds to me like he was driving fairly reasonably and the pedestrian was mostly at fault. I bet a lot of people posting here have driven their car at 0.12 without even knowing it and would be in the same spot if someone had walked out in front of their car at daybreak while they were driving 50 mph.

The Vick thing was obviously blown way out of proportion, but if a regular joe would have gotten 15 years for what Stallworth the tragedy would be in the 15 year sentence, not the 30 days. Note that he also got 2 years of house arrest and 8 more of probation after that.

He had time to flash his lights at the guy, but not brake. To me that is completely unreasonable. He murdered the guy.

I also am a big proponent of stiffer DUI penalties. Make them so harsh that people don't ever want to even chance it.

I'm amazed what people will do for money.

"Hey, I know you killed my (insert family member here) but give me (insert monetary value here) and we'll call it even."

But since when has something had to have been legal for it to be done. I wouldn't be surprised if he would drive himself as soon as he got out.

I think he at least waits until his probation is up. Would you risk a joy ride for 15 years behind bars?
